NEWSBRIEF: South St. Paul Fill the Backpack

On Tuesday, Aug. 7, the South St. Paul Mayor’s Youth Task Force will kick off the 18th Annual “Fill the Backpack” campaign for students in need at the local schools in South St. Paul. Each year, over 200 backpacks are filled for students in need. The SSP Mayor’s Youth Task Force has received a donation from the Mizpah Lodge #191 to purchase backpacks. The Task Force is asking neighborhoods, organizations, groups, or individuals to purchase school supplies to fill the backpacks. Bring your donations to the South St. Paul City Hall, 125 Third Ave. N., and place in the barrel located in the lobby. Once the backpacks are filled, they will be given to the schools to distribute to the students in need in the SSP School District so all students can start the school year off with a filled backpack.

For more information or a backpack to fill, contact Deb Griffith, community affairs liaison, at 651-554-3230 or

Checks can be written to City of South St. Paul – SSP Mayor’s Youth Task Force.
