Smartphone basics

Discover options for providing better smartphone security on your iPhone or Android. Learn which basic security settings are right for you and how to configure them. Topics to be covered include PINs and password managers, apps and backups, WiFi and VPNs, remote wipe, encryption, and smartphone scams. Presented by Twin Cities Media Alliance, this will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m., at the South St. Paul Library, 106 Third Ave. N., on April 23. Call 615-554-3240 for more information.

 

Earth Day at Dodge

Come with the whole family or come with a friend on April 24 to give Mother Nature an eco-boost. The volunteer army at Dodge Nature Center will take on a variety of projects including litter pick-up, invasive species removal, garden clean up and more. Available projects will be presented the day of the event.

Enjoy a bit to eat on Dodge as a thank you for helping. Bring your own work gloves if you can and dress for the weather. The event will run from 5:30 to 8 p.m., but you can leave sooner if needed. Inver Glen book sale

The Friends of the Inver Glen Library will be hosting a book sale at the library, 8098 Blaine Ave. E., April 25 through 28, with a pre-sale for members on April 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. Discover great deals on gently sued materials and help support your local library – proceeds from the sale benefit the teen and children’s summer programs. Business town hall meeting

On Wednesday, April 25, the City of Inver Grove Heights will host their annual business town hall meeting at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held in council chambers located at City Hall, 8150 Barbara Ave. The meeting is designed to provide an informal avenue for business owners in the community to discuss a variety of topics. City staff will be available to answer questions and provide updates on the future direction of the city and how the city intends to meet the needs and demands of our businesses. There will be a presentation given by the city administrator and members from the River Heights Chamber of Commerce. Refreshments will be served for attendees. Intro to 3D printing

On April 25, from 7:30 to 8 p.m., learn the basics of how 3D printers work and how to get started 3D printing in the iLAB at the West St. Paul Library, 199 Wentworth Ave. E. Discover ways to create your own 3D designs using CAD tools for beginners. Registration is required, and this is geared for ages 12 and older. Call 651-554-6800 for more information.

 

Thompson Lake open house

An open house will be held April 26 from 5 to 7 p.m., at Dakota Lodge, 1200 Stassen Lane, in West St. Paul for those wanting to learn more about the Thompson Lake restoration project. The project includes a lake cleanup and installation of a storm water management system to ensure all future water is cleaned before it enters the lake. This open house will feature information about the project and include activities for children and adults to learn how to keep the lake healthy.

 

Antiques appraisal

Antiques expert Mark Moran will be on hand from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., at the South St. Paul Library, 106 Third Ave. N., to evaluate and appraise old toys, clocks, costume jewelry, artwork, vintage photographs, glassware and more. Participant registration required for appraisal. Contact the library, 651-554-3240, to be added to the appraisal list. There is a limit of one item per person. 

 

El Día de los Niños/El Día de los Libros

Celebrate literacy and reading with children of all ages and cultural backgrounds from 10 a.m., to 12:30 p.m., at the West St. Paul Library, 199 Wentworth Ave. E, on April 28. This family-friendly event includes live entertainment, crafts, refreshments and resource information. Each child receives a free book.
