Anxiety support group

NAMI Minnesota (National Alliance on Mental Illness) sponsors free support groups for persons with anxiety disorders. The groups help individuals develop better coping skills and find strength through sharing their experiences. The Open Door Anxiety and Panic support group meets on the East Side from 6:30 to 8 p.m., on the first and third Thursday of the month, at Woodland Hills Church, 1740 Van Dyke St. For more information, call NAMI at 651-645-2948.


Maryland Avenue meeting

Ramsey County will hold a meeting on Thursday, April 26 at 6:30 p.m. at Farnsworth Lower Campus, 1290 Arcade St. to update residents about the county’s decision to make the new, three-lane configuration on Maryland Avenue permanent and to provide a resurfacing schedule. 


Seeking volunteers

Northeast Seniors for Better Living is seeking volunteers to help older adults living in the northeast neighborhoods of St. Paul remain safe and independent at home. The organization has many different volunteer opportunities, including driving seniors to medical appointments and social events, providing friendly home visits, assistance with snow shoveling, outdoor chores, and minor home repairs. Senior Social at Northeast Seniors

Northeast Seniors invites seniors 55 and older and their family and friends to join them for lunch, conversation and fun beginning at 11 a.m. every second and fourth Tuesday of the month. A free lunch is served at noon courtesy of Loaves and Fishes. After lunch, enjoy entertainment, educational speakers, free blood pressure checks from our student nurses, and activities like cards, bingo and a chance to socialize with neighbors. Northeast Seniors also offers free transportation to and from their events for those who need it, which can be arranged by calling Northeast Seniors at least 24 hours in advance at 651-808-1901. Senior Social takes place at The Beloved United Methodist Church, 1965 Sherwood Ave.


Railroad Island meeting

The Railroad Island Task Force will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, April 26, 6 p.m. at Hope Community Academy, 720 Payne Ave. The evening’s agenda includes information about a unique rehabilitation and efficiency program for Railroad Island through Xcel Energy, an update on the Village on Rivoli solar garden, an update about the remainder of the Commercial Vitality Zone funding, updates from the East Side Elders and the Payne-Arcade Harvest Festival.
