SPPS Equity Summit  request for proposals 

St. Paul Public Schools is hosting its first equity summit and looking for presenters to give 60 minute workshops.

Beyond Our Walls: SPPS Equity Summit is a one day convening dedicated to learning and leading through gender equity, racial equity, and their intersections. This summit is open to educators, students, parents, leaders, and community members and will take place on Saturday, April 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Johnson Senior High School, 1349 Arcade St.

Organizers are seeking workshop proposals to engage participants in learning and growing in the following four areas;

- Community organizing

- Leadership

- Teaching and learning

- Youth activism

Free meals from Loaves and Fishes

The Minnesota nonprofit Loaves and Fishes provides free meals at various East Side churches, which are open to anyone in need. 

Beloved United Methodist Church, located at 1965 Sherwood Ave, host meals on Mondays and Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The church is also looking for volunteers to help out. The site coordinator can be reached at epworth@loavesandfishesmn.org.

Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, located at 1390 Larpenteur Ave. E., serves meals on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. 

Gethsemane Lutheran Church, located at 2410 Stillwater Road E., serves meals on the first and third Thursday of each month from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

 

Metro Transit’s Transit Assistance Program

Metro Transit’s Transit Assistance Program (TAP) makes public transportation more affordable for low-income commuters.

Those who qualify for TAP receive a stored value card that they can refill at any time and receive $1 rides, regardless of service type or time of day. TAP allows low-income commuters to save $2.25-$1.50 per rush hour ride and $1.50-$1.00 per non-rush hour ride.

To enroll, individuals must visit the Skyway Downtown St. Paul Transit Store, US Bank Center, 101 East Fifth St., show a photo ID or utility statement with their names on it, and and present one of the following:

- EBT card with cash or food benefits

- WIC folder 

- Free/reduced school lunch approval letter

- Energy assistance approval n otice 

- Metro HRA family r eport.

Free business consultations

Women Ventures provides walk-in, one-on-one business consulting services for future or existing businesses at several Twin Cities locations. The 20-minute consultations are free and no appointment is necessary.

Local hours and locations include:

-East Side Enterprise Center, 804 Margaret St, March 19 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

-Arlington Hills Community Center, 1200 Payne Ave., March 29 from 1 to 3 p.m.
