Family Freedom Festival

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, District 4, will be sponsoring a Family Freedom Festival on Saturday, March 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Maplewood Mall.  Representatives from New Brighton, Shoreview, North St. Paul, White Bear Lake, Mendota, Roseville, Cottage Grove and Woodbury will be on hand to share information about the VFW and auxiliary programs, such as veterans and family services, Buddy Poppy, membership, Americanism, hospital, Legislative, scholarships and youth.  Please stop by to acquire literature and visit with members. Victorian Tea at historic courthouse

The Victorian Tea, a tradition at the Washington County Historic Courthouse, will be noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28. The Historic Courthouse is at the corner of Third and Pine streets in Stillwater. Proceeds from the tea go to the Historic Courthouse Restoration Fund. Victorian Tea tickets are $40 each and include an afternoon of catered food and tea music, conversation, charming table settings and a program by the Minnesota Historical Society. STEM Saturday at Lake Elmo: light and kaleidoscopes

This program examines how light travels, changes direction and is refracted. Participants will be able to build and engineer a colorful kaleidoscope to take home. This program, which takes place Saturday, March 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., is a great fit with third and sixth grade standards, but appropriate for younger ages as well. The Lake Elmo Public Library is located at 3537 Lake Elmo Ave. N.

 

Identity theft prevention

Knowing what to do if your identity is stolen is important because an identity thief can hijack your tax refund, alter your medical records and prevent you from getting credit or a job. This class encourages people to make identity protection part of their regular routine. It covers what identity theft is, how to protect your identity and avoid identity theft, and provides clear action steps to take if it happens to you. This program will be held Saturday, March 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Oakdale Public Library, 1010 Heron Ave. N.

 

Introduction to screenwriting

This introductory class will teach you the fundamentals of screenwriting. On Saturday, March 24, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., learn about dialogue, scene and rising action, as well as script styles and craft elements. This class hosted at the Oakdale Public Library, 1010 Heron Ave. N., will help you jump start your script ideas. The workshop will be presented by the experienced staff of The Loft Literacy Center. Best snow sculpture of Oakdale contest

Do you have what it takes to create the best snow sculpture in Oakdale? Head outside any time after a snowfall and create your masterpiece. All sculptures are judged on appearance, relative to this season’s theme: “Summer at the Beach.” The creator of the winning sculpture receives a $100 Marcus Theaters gift card.  Submit photo entries by March 30 to nathan@ci.oakdale.mn.us. The winner will be contacted by April 2.
