Arden Hills

Cold and tired

A woman called the police the night of Jan. 3 from the 400 block of Indian Hills Drive to report a barking dog that sounded cold and tired.

Falcon Heights

Stolen package

A 26-year-old woman told police Dec. 27 that a package worth $38.50 that had been delivered to her apartment building in the 1700 block of Larpenteur Avenue was missing from the building’s lobby when she went to go get it.

The end of watch

The St. Anthony Police Department patrolled Falcon Heights since the mid-1990s, based on a police contract between the two cities. The 2016 police killing of Philando Castile, shot by a St. Anthony officer during a traffic stop in Falcon Heights, set into motion the end of the cities’ two-decade relationship. The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office took over patrols of Falcon Heights on Jan. 1, with Dec. 31 being St. Anthony’s last day. There are six police reports from Dec. 31, traffic stops for speeding and obstructed plates that all happened on Snelling Avenue — officers issued five citations and one warning, the last report, for obstructed plates.

Lauderdale

Harassment

The mother of a 13-year-old boy told police Dec. 26 the child saw a photo of his father posted on the side of a neighbor’s home — this was a violation of an active harassment restraining order. Police talked to a 68-year-old man — it’s unclear who he was, the boy’s father or a neighbor — and the man cursed at officers as they walked away. Police turned the case over to the Ramsey County Attorney for possible charges for violating the order.

Fraud

A 59-year-old man told police Dec. 29 he’d found two unauthorized withdrawls from his checking account — one for $227.50 and another for $1,213.70. The case is pending further investigation.

Little Canada

Burglary

Someone broke into a garage in the 400 block of Labore Road the afternoon of Jan. 8 and stole $875 worth of tools and equipment as reported by the 25-year-old woman who owns the stuff. Deputies found minor damage to the garage door — two toolboxes were missing as well as a $600 car battery jump pack.

Guns, chase

Someone at a business in the 100 block of County Road C  called the police Jan. 5 around 1 p.m. to report a former employee, a 38-year-old Hastings man, was in the parking lot with a gun. Deputies arrived and the man was standing next to a car holding a gun, with items at his feet that looked like a shotgun case with the weapon inside. A deputy told him to surrender but the man cursed at him; the man got in his car and started it. Deputies told the man to shut the car off but the man gave them the middle finger and drove off.

The man drove out of the lot onto Interstate 35E and police pursued him. Weaving through traffic at speeds faster than 100 miles per hour, the chase went from I-35E to Interstate 694 to Interstate 94 headed east. State troopers and a helicoptor joined and took over the chase, with the man eventually exiting the interstate and driving down a dead-end road.

As the man tried to drive back up the road his tires were blown by a stop stick laid down by police. The man got out and ran but was arrested by state troopers an hour and forty minutes after deputies were first called. The man was booked at the Ramsey County Jail for felony terroristic threats and felony fleeing police in a motor vehicle.

Rude awakening

The evening of Jan. 6 a 30-year-old employee of a store in the 2600 block of Rice Street snoozed in the back room as a person identified as a 20-year-old woman went through the store, stealing items. The man even woke up during the incident, but thought it was the store’s owner and didn’t investigate. Three other employees entered the store and found the woman rifling through an open safe and stuffing cell phones into a black bag. The woman dashed out of the store upon discovery, dropping most of what she was trying to steal, including phones, a Social Security card and other paperwork. She hopped into a parked car and one of the employees went to confront her — she pointed a pistol at him. He ducked and ran back into the store. The woman drove off. Police reviewed security footage and it backs up the sequence of events.

Stolen car

A 23-year-old St. Paul man called the police Jan. 8 to report the theft of his 1999 Honda Civic from the 200 block of County Road B2. The man called the cops at 6 p.m. and the car was found at 8:30 p.m. that day in St. Paul.

New Brighton

Stolen Camaro

Someone popped or clipped a lock off a locker at the LA Fitness in the 1100 block of Silver Lake Road the afternoon of Jan. 7 and stole a 39-year-old man’s Camaro keys. The thief then went on to steal the man’s 2017 Camaro, a $23,000 loss.

Shoreview

Stolen generator

A business in the 4600 block of Churchill Street N. called the police Jan. 3 to report the theft of a generator. The business requested no further action, but requested increased police patrols over holiday weekends.

A 39-year-old woman told police Dec. 29 that her car, parked in the 3300 block of Edward Street, was egged overnight.

Grab and go

Someone requested a carton of cigarettes and a box of cigars — $175.20 worth of stuff — at the SuperAmerica in the 3200 block of Stinson Boulevard Dec. 30. Once the items were bagged, the person grabbed the bag and hopped into a waiting car. Even though police were given the vehicle’s license plate number, the thief got away.

Juvenile delinquency

Officers saw a suspicious vehicle parked in the area of 35th Avenue and Coolidge Street Dec. 26, and as they watched it the car sped off, going as fast as 90 miles per hour. After going a short distance, the vehicle stopped and officers caught up with it, checking things out. Four teenage boys were in the car, which had been stolen out of Minneapolis. The Hennepin County Crime Lab checked the car and found possible stolen property, which included items stolen from a 44-year-old St. Anthony woman who told police that two of her vehicles that had been unlocked had been rummaged through while parked in the 2500 block of 29th Avenue — always lock the car. The driver of the car, a 16-year-old, was booked at the Hennepin County Jail for felony vehicle theft and felony fleeing police. The rest of the kids, ages 15, 16 and 17, were released to their parents and promised citations for tampering with a motor vehicle and curfew violations — they’re all also looking at charges of misdemeanor theft.

Lock the car

A 48-year-old man told police Dec. 27 someone rummaged through his unlocked car as it was parked in the 2500 block of Silver Lane and stole a phone charger, as well as the car’s battery. The man also thinks a tool box was stolen.
