Predatory offender community meeting

A community meeting will be held at the St. Paul Police Eastern District Community Room, 722 Payne Ave., on Wednesday Oct. 25 regarding a predatory offender moving to the 1700 block of Reaney Avenue, near the Hazel Park neighborhood on the East Side. 

The meeting will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. and will include complete information on the offender. 

The offender, James Charles Erickson, 39, is a level three predatory offender. Erickson’s history includes sexual contact with an 11-year-old female victim.

Join Payne-Phalen Community Council

Are you interested in making decisions that affect the Payne-Phalen neighborhood? Consider serving on the Payne-Phalen Community Council Board.  There is one, partial-term seat open.  The term ends April 2019. The seat will be filled at the Oct. 24 board meeting held at 6:30 p.m. at the Arlington Hills Community Center, 1200 Payne Ave.

 You are eligible to run for the open seat on the board if you are age 18 or older and you live in the Payne-Phalen area, or you own a business in Payne-Phalen. All interested residents and business owners are encouraged to apply, and should plan to attend the Oct. 24 meeting. For those interested in running, you will have two minutes during the meeting to state why you would like to serve. The board will then vote to fill the open seats.

 The Payne-Phalen Community Council has a 17-member volunteer board.  Board members are expected to attend monthly meetings held the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.  For more about the council, visit paynephalen.org or email director@payenphalen.org.

 Also at the October meeting, the board will continue work on the District Plan. Are all welcome to come to the meeting to help with the District Plan, which will help plan future development in the neighborhood. 


Railroad Island neighborhood meeting

The Railroad Island Task Force will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, Oct. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hope Community Academy, 720 Payne Ave. The meeting’s agenda includes updates on Payne Avenue construction, the police training facility, Swede Hollow Overlook, Karibu Market & Deli, and Rivoli Bluff. The meeting will also include planning for street clean-up and planning for for the upcoming Trunk-or-Treat event and a holiday party.


Hope for Recovery workshop

NAMI Minnesota (National Alliance on Mental Illness) will hold a free, interactive workshop that provides families and individuals with information on mental illnesses, practical coping strategies, and hope for recovery. The workshop will be held in St. Paul at Mount Zion Temple, 1300 Summit Ave., on Sunday, Nov. 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For information or to register, call 651-645-2948 or go to namihelps.org.
