Mayoral candidate meet-and-greets

The League of Women Voters of St. Paul are partnering with the Minnesota Humanities Center and the Payne-Phalen Community Council for a mayoral candidate meet-and-greet on Tuesday, Oct. 17 from 7 to 8:30 p.m with candidates Melvin Carter, Elizabeth Dickinson, Tom Goldstein, Pat Harris, Tim Holden and Dai Thao at the Minnesota Humanities Center, 987 Ivy Ave. E.

 FairVote Minnesota will also be present at the meet-and-greets to show voters how to use the ranked choice voting system that will be used on election day, Nov. 7.

 

Get to Know NAMI

 NAMI Minnesota (National Alliance on Mental Illness) will hold a free Get to Know NAMI class in St. Paul on Wednesday, Nov. 1, from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m., at NAMI Minnesota, 800 Transfer Road, Suite 31.  Meet NAMI staff and volunteers and hear firsthand how NAMI’s work directly affects the lives of children and adults with mental illnesses and their families. Free talks at HealthPartners Neuroscience Center

HealthPartners Neuroscience Center’s Center for Memory and Aging, located at 295 Phalen Boulevard, offers events and educational classes for the community where caregivers, social workers and nurses can earn a continuing education unit, or CEU.  These “Ask the Experts” talks are free, open to the public and provide one CEU for social workers. Upcoming talks include “Spinal Cord Injury: Sorting Fact from Fiction” on Friday, Oct. 27, from noon  to 1 p.m, and “Driving After a Diagnosis” on Thursday, Nov. 2, from 3 to 4 p.m. RSVP to Jan.L.karrmann@HealthPartners.com or call 651-495-6565 to register for either talk.  Both will be held at the Neuroscience Center Conference Center.  A list of talks scheduled in November. and December can also be found on facebook.com/fightmemoryloss.

 

 Partners & Spouses mental health support group  

NAMI Minnesota (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is sponsoring a support group specifically for partners or spouses of someone who lives with a mental illness. The Partners & Spouses support group meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m., at Falcon Heights United Church of Christ, 1795 Holton St. For more information, call Melissa at 651-354-0825 or Sara at 763-350-6502.

 

Free clothing and meal

On Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the Beloved Church will host a Free Store shopping event. Items will include winter jackets, shoes, blankets, toiletry items and clothing for the whole family and everything is free. A free community meal will be served from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
