Inquiring Minds: Special glasses to watch eclipse

Each week the staff at the Roseville Library answers more than 2,500 questions on every subject under the sun. Here is one some of the most interesting ones they’ve gotten lately.

Q. I heard that public libraries are giving out special glasses that we can use to watch the eclipse. How do I get a pair?

A. There is going to be a solar eclipse around midday later this month on Monday, Aug.  21, and several of our Ramsey County library branches are organizing programs to help mark this exciting astronomical event. Check with staff at the Shoreview, Mounds View, White Bear Lake or Roseville Libraries for more information about their viewing parties. Some libraries have already started distributing eyewear, but at Roseville on the day of the party, staff will hand out special glasses that will permit you to view the eclipse without risking eye damage.
