New coffee chain moves to Maplewood

file photo • The West St. Paul City Council gave the go-ahead Jan. 8 for a new building on Robert Street in the Hobby Lobby parking lot that will be home to a Tim Hortons. The Canadian doughnut and coffee shop has been popping up in the Twin Cities as of late; the Robert Street location should be similar to the Tim Hortons that opened in Maplewood last year.

Tim Hortons, a Canadian-based coffee chain, opened a new franchise in Maplewood July 29. The business, which is known for their doughnuts as well as their coffee, is located at the corner of County Road B and Rice Street near Cub Foods.

“I think any time you can have more options for residents and people visiting Maplewood it’s a plus,” says Michael Martin, Maplewood’s Economic Development Coordinator.

The newly built, 6,240-square-foot building that houses the new coffee shop also includes space for three other businesses, though it is yet to be determined what will move into those currently vacant spaces.
