The sacred and profane in Shoreview

Arden Hills

Cub heist

A mother-daughter duo from Shoreview, ages 51 and 31, were caught trying to steal $331 worth of merchandise from the Cub Foods in the 3700 block of Lexington Avenue July 24. They purchased a couple of things and tried to leave with a number of other items stuffed into their purses and a stroller: Gatorade, gummy bears, sandwiches, makeup, mosquito repellent and baby formula, among other items.

Dang

A group of six or seven boys seen walking around the Goodwill store in the 1100 block of County Road E July 19 were seen entering the store’s bathroom together, then walking briskly out of the store. A 72-year-old man from White Bear Lake later told police the kids had blocked him into a bathroom stall, and when the man’s car keys fell to the ground, the boys grabbed them and then stole his car. The car was recovered the next day in St. Paul and police are checking the store’s security footage for leads.

Missing jewelry

A 59-year-old woman who lives in the 4300 block of Arden Court told police July 21 she was out $11,000 worth of jewelry, including her mother’s wedding band. She told police her cousin, cousin’s daughter and some of the daughter’s friends were staying with her around the time the jewelry went missing.

Not a walk in the park

Vandals might have busted up a picnic table in Hazelnut Park as discovered July 21, though it’s unclear how it was broken. A trash can was also damaged.

Scene at Starbucks

A 55-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman from Roseville were banned for a year from the coffee shop in the 3800 block of Lexington Avenue after they caused a scene there July 25. The two talked loudly, were disrespectful to customers and staff and used racial slurs, refusing to leave until the cops showed up.

Falcon Heights

Accident

Police responded to the intersection of Larpenteur Avenue and Arona Street July 12 on a report of an accident. One of the drivers, a 33-year-old man, was arrested and cited for driving without insurance.

Underage drinking

A pair of 20-year-old women was pulled over July 14 at Larpenteur Avenue and Fulham Street. Both of them were cited for underage consumption of alcohol; the driver was also arrested and cited for driving with a suspended license, underage drinking and driving out of a traffic lane.

Serial gasser and goer

Someone filled up their tank at the BP gas station in the 1600 block of Snelling Avenue with $40 worth of gas then left without paying for it. Gas station employees jotted down the license plate number of the offending car. Police say the same car has been involved in other gas thefts in the Falcon Heights area. Police called the registered owner of the car, but she said she doesn’t own it anymore.

Lauderdale

Arrest

Police stopped a 20-year-old man at Larpenteur Avenue and Eustis Street July 11 and cited and arrested him for not having a valid driver’s license, no proof of insurance and for not having insurance. He was released at the scene. His passenger, a 22-year-old man, was booked at the Ramsey County Jail for an outstanding Ramsey County warrant for fleeing police in a motor vehicle.

Police stopped a man and a woman July 13 at Larpenteur Avenue and Highway 280. The woman was booked at the Ramsey County Jail for fifth-degree drug possession — she had methamphetamine. A passenger in the car, a 48-year-old man, was taken to the jail and booked for possession of burglary tools.

Harrassment leads to a punch?

A July 10 report out of the 1700 block of Malvern Street had one neighbor yelling obscenities at another neighbor, in violation of a restraining order. Police talked to the shouting neighbor and got things figured out. On July 16, another report came out of the same block: a 39-year-old man told police he was punched in the chest by his 53-year-old neighbor, in violation of a restraining order. The older man initially refused to answer his door to talk to police; he was later arrested and booked at the Ramsey County Jail for felony stalking.

An officer was watching a car parked in a lot in the 2500 block of Larpenteur Avenue July 10 when someone inside the vehicle tossed some trash onto the ground. The officer then warned the person against littering.

Stolen motorcycle

A 30-year-old man told police someone stole his motorcycle from the 1600 block of Carl Street overnight into July 11; it was a $2,000 loss.

Little Canada

Assault

Deputies arrested two men after they jumped a 31-year-old Arden Hills man in an apartment parking lot in the 400 block of Labore road July 25. The men, a 51-year-old from Minneapolis and a 56-year-old from Little Canada, were cited for disorderly conduct and fifth-degree assault and booked at the Ramsey County Jail. The elder man had dated the 31-year-old’s mom, who lives at the apartment commplex where the attack happened, and the two assaulted the younger man because he’d told the ex-boyfriend to quit harassing his mother.

A 44-year-old woman from Burnsville was arrested after she assaulted a 50-year-old Little Canada woman at Gordy’s Bar in the 100 block of Little Canada Road July 19.

Harassment

A woman told police July 25 that she suspected, and was seemingly proven correct, that her ex-husband was using a tracking device placed on her car in order to show up wherever she goes. She said the man had tracked her to the airport, grocery store and where she works. Police are investigating and pressed the woman to get an order of protection against him.

No sign?

Someone called police to report two men tearing down a road sign in the area of Sylvan Road and County Road C around bar close July 22. Police showed up but there was no sign of the men.

Stomps fired

Someone called police around midnight July 23 from the 400 block of Labore Road to report shots fired, but it was just the upstairs neighbor stomping on the floor. That same morning another shots fired call came in from the 100 block of Big Circle Drive but deputies didn’t find anything suspicious.

Police picked up a 28-year-old woman from the 1500 block of Piper Drive July 24 who was wanted on a couple theft warrants out of Anoka and Ramsey counties.

Assault

Police headed to Cowboy Jacks July 24 on a report of an assault and found a man bleeding from his mouth and with a scraped-up left eye. They tracked down the 20-year-old man who’d evidently assaulted him; the 20-year-old was identified by witnesses. When all was said and done, police cited the man for misdemeanor assault, as he claimed he was defending his father and only threw one punch after the injured man “ran at him.”

Can’t remember the robbery

A 22-year-old man who told police he was high on Xanax also told police he couldn’t remember robbing the Exxon gas station in the 200 block of County Road E2, though based on security footage, it was him. He’d threatened an employee, boosted a bunch of cigarettes and cigars, then left in a red Nissan Sentra. He was stopped later at Snelling Avenue and County Road I. When shown the video of the heist he admitted it was him — he was booked at the Ramsey County Jail for simple robbery.

Gas and go

Someone put $48 worth of gas into a red, 2003 Ford Explorer at the gas station in the 200 block of County Road E2, then drove off without paying. Police were given the SUV’s license plate number but it didn’t match the truck, so police assume the plates were stolen.

Mail theft

A 48-year-old man told police July 26 some of his outgoing mail had been stolen, including some checks, from the 2200 block of Walnut Avenue. A neighbor found some of his mail on the ground and tipped the man off. In total, four outgoing checks, intended to pay bills, were stolen.

The thief went through the man’s car, as well, but didn’t seem to take anything. Police advised the man to change the locks at home.

Shoreview

Burglary

Someone got into a house in the 400 block of Majestic Court in the early morning of July 21 and stole cash and coins, $150 total. The prowler likely got in through the garage.

Someone got into an unlocked house in the 800 block of Cannon Drive the morning of July 22. The 77-year-old woman who lives there had turned on her alarm but failed to lock the door as she headed off to watch the Slice of Shoreview Days Parade. The prowler set off the alarm on the way in, but managed to steal credit cards, a phone and cash. The woman and police might know who did it.

A 55-year-old man who lives in the 600 block of Harret Avenue told police two people — he has photos and video — stole his $1,400 bike out of the garage while he was at home. He’d left the garage door open.

Landscape escape

Two men from South St. Paul who’d been mowing lawns in the 5400 block of Lexington Avenue July 25 told police their truck and trailer were stolen. They’d left the keys in the truck and someone’d hopped in and drove off. One man’s wallet and keys were inside the cab at the time of the theft.

The sacred and profane

Three teenage boys broke into St. Odilia Catholic Church in the 3400 block of Victoria Street overnight into July 20, and their idiocy was caught on security tape. At first, the trio was at a nearby construction site throwing things around. Later, they entered the church through an unlocked door and smoked cigarettes inside the lobby area. They went back to the construction site, returning to the church with a fire extinguisher, which they fired at the front doors of the place of worship. They tried to go back inside but the door had locked. They took off — two on bikes and one on a skateboard. Police are investigating.

Robbery

Deputies headed to a report of a robbery in progress July 23 in the area of the 1500 block of Hall Street. As they got near, they saw a car speeding off and a person on the side of the road waving their hands. They caught up with the suspect car a mile down the road and both people inside it cooperated. The duo and the car they were riding in also matched the description of people wanted for a felony robbery in New Brighton. As for the Shoreview incident, the two were supposed to buy some marijuana from a seller, but instead stole the weed as well as the dealer’s guitar.

St. Anthony

Domestic assault

A 21-year-old grandson assaulted his 76-year-old grandmother July 15 — they got into an argument and he put his hands around her neck. Though initially the woman did not want the man charged, she changed her mind as police had a hard time getting the man to leave her residence. While being booked at the Hennepin County Jail, it was found the 21-year-old was in possession of a pill he was not prescribed, so in addition to being booked for misdemeanor domestic assault, the man was also booked for felony drug possession.

DWI

A 63-year-old St. Anthony man stopped July 10 at 34th Avenue and Silver Lake Road was booked at the Hennepin County Jail for third-degree DWI after he blew a .17 blood alcohol concentration. He was also booked for speeding and displaying the wrong license plates and his car was impounded.

Grocery getter

A 14-year-old boy was caught July 10 trying to steal $124.98 worth of mechandise from the Cub Foods in the 3900 block of Silver Lake Road. Police called the kid’s father to the scene to take him away, but not before the boy was cited for misdemeanor theft.

Friends like these

A 66-year-old father told police July 10 that his adult son had some people over to the house in the 3300 block of Edward Street and some of the friends had apparently stolen some stuff, including $100 cash and a tablet computer. Police were given some information about some of the individuals; the total loss was $312.

Missing cash

A 69-year-old woman told police July 14 $500 cash was missing from her apartment in the 2500 block of 38th Avenue. She said several health care workers who visit her apartment weekly would have had access to the money.

Stolen bicycle

A 36-year-old man told police July 15 that his $450 bike was stolen from the underground garage at his apartment in the 2500 block of Kenzie Terrace despite the fact it was locked up.
