Dandies dining and dashing in New Brighton


Arden Hills

Assault

A group of four friends were walking home from the bar early in the morning of July 15 on Highway 51 near County Road E when they were approached by a man who started harassing them. The man left, but then ran up and punched one of the group, a 56-year-old man from Arden Hills, who was knocked to the ground, cutting his head. The assailant ran off and the man was taken to the hospital.

Stolen plate

Someone stole a license plate off a company car while it was parked in the 4300 block of West Round Lake Road sometime before noon on July 18.


 

Falcon Heights

Arrest

Police picked up a 20-year-old man who had a felony theft warrant out of Washington County from the area of Larpenteur and Hamline avenues July 8.

‘Dangerous parking situation’

Someone called the cops to report a “dangerous parking situaiton” in the area of Cleveland and Larpenteur avenues July 5. Officers showed up and got everyone to move their cars.

Someone called the police July 7 to report a suspicious van parked by their house in the 1400 block of Idaho Avenue; the van was registered to a neighbor.

DWI

A 50-year-old St. Paul man pulled over at Garden and Hamline avenues July 3 blew a .18 blood alcohol concentration so he was booked at the Ramsey County Jail for gross misdemeanor second-degree DWI.

Harassment

A 48-year-old man told police July 3 that he was being harassed over the phone by an acquiantance, who was identified as a 59-year-old woman. That same day, as police left the man’s place, they found the woman sitting in a nearby park. They told her to stop the harassment and gave her a ride, presumably home, to Blaine.

Lock your car

A 46-year-old man told police July 8 someone entered his unlocked vehicle in the 2100 block of Folwell Avenue and stole his garage door opener, then used it to open the garage and steal a bike. Police were given the serial number of the bicycle, which is a $300 loss.

The sins of the stepfather ...

Police stopped a car July 7 at Larpenteur Avenue and Coffman Street July 7 because its license plates were flagged for impound. The officer had to inform the driver their stepfather had a DWI and the driver was told to park the vehicle and remove its plates.


 

Lauderdale

Gun and ammo

A 27-year-old man was arrested for felony possession of ammunition and a firearm by an ineligible person July 4 in the 2500 block of Broadway Street. Police seized the gun and ammo and the man was booked at the Ramsey County Jail.

Juvenile delinquents

Police stopped a carload of kids July 8 at Larpenteur Avenue and Highway 280. The 18-year-old woman who was driving was arrested and booked at the Ramsey County Jail for giving false information to police, obstructing the legal process and driving without a valid driver’s license. An 18-year-old woman who was a passenger was cited for underage consumption off alcohol. A 15-year-old girl who was in the car was arrested and cited and ultimately turned over to her parents for lying to police, obstructing the legal process and for a Dakota County theft warrant. A 16-year-old girl who was in the car, also turned over to her parents, was cited for underage consumption.

Traffic arrests

Police arrested and cited men and women ages 17-33 for various violations in the Larpenteur Avenue and Highway 280 corridors July 3-9. In one instance, during a July 9 stop at Larpenteur and Pleasant Street, a 27-year-old woman was arrested for having no proof of insurance, driving with a revoked license, failing to transfer her car’s title, expired tabs and failing to signal a turn. She was told the citation was in the mail.


 

Little Canada

Angry swimmer

Management caught a 25-year-old man swimming in the pool at apartments located in the 100 block of Little Canada Road the afternoon of July 12 and told him it was a “no-go,” since the pool was only for residents. The man became angry and yelled at the manager but the situation appeared to be over. Later that day, while the manager was working in the building’s laundry room, the 25-year-old showed up again and started yelling, then broke the glass on the front door of the apartment buidling. Police were called and they found the man in one of the apartments, and arrested him for criminal damage to property. He caused a scene as he was taken away, screaming and kicking in the squad car.

Broken window / stolen Kleenex

Someon used a rock to break into a 57-year-old woman’s car as it was parked in the 200 block of County Road B2 as reported July 16. The prowler stole a phone charger, CDs, a tab renewal form and a box of tissues, among other small items.

Guns and change

A 56-year old man told police July 17 someone had broken into his house in the 3100 block of Payne Avenue. The prowler moved stuff around, stole a jar of change and two guns, a revolver and a shotgun. It’s likely the burglar came in through an unlocked window.

Halfway crooks

Some would-be thieves got halfway through a heist as discovered July 15. Someone drove a Uhaul truck that had been stolen out of St. Paul through a gate at a construction site in the 100 block of County Road B2, but the aspiring felons got the truck stuck and ended up ditching it before they could, presumably, load it up with construction equipment and tools and get away.

Hit and run accident

A 55-year-old Inver Grove Heights woman told police July 17 that while she was driving through the McDonalds parking lot in the 2200 block of Rice Street another car backed out of its parking space and hit her car. The driver then took off. She jotted down the license plate number but the number didn’t match her description of the offending car.


 

Mounds View

Camper battery crook

A 45-year-old man told police July 13 someone had stolen the battery out of his pop-up camper from the 2400 block of County Road I, a loss of about $120.

Caught in the act

Police arrested a 31-year-old man July 15 who was caught inside a commercial building in the 2100 block of Mustang Drive. He was later charged with second-degree burglary.

Counterfeit

On July 16 police were given a $20 counterfeit bill that had been used at the SuperAmerica in the 2600 block of County Road I.

DWI

A 45-year-old woman stopped July 14 in the area of County Road I and Greenfield Avenue was arrested for fourth-degree DWI after she was seen failing to maintain her lane. She was also cited for no proof of insurance.

Lock your car

A 33-year-old man reported the theft of his wallet July 18 from his unlocked car, which was parked in the 7000 block of Knollwood Drive. The wallet contained some gift cards.

Stolen bikes

Mom called in the theft of a $60 Huffy BMX bike from the movie theaters in the 2400 block of Mounds View Boulevard on July 13, a couple days after the bicycle was stolen.

A 31-year-old man told police his $100 Kent mountain bike was stolen July 18 from the 2500 block of County Road I.


 

New Brighton

Dandies dining and dashing

A group of six young men dressed in button-down shirts and bow ties ditched out on a $64.11 bill at the Perkins in the 600 block of County Road D around 5 a.m. on July 15. The guys, ages 16-20, were seen dashing out of the restaurant and into a black Toyota that was parked in the adjacent McDonald’s parking lot.

‘Drawings and writings’

Someone called police July 14 to report some grafitti on a basketball court near Silver Lake Road and Rice Creek Road. Police showed up and found drawings and writings; they had city parks staffers clean it up.

Rocks thrown

Mom called police on behalf of her son July 14 because someone had been throwing rocks at his Lexus as it was parked at Irondale High School in the 2400 block of Long Lake Road. The paint and body of the car were damaged and the back passener-side window was broken. 

Someone chucked a decent-sized rock through a third story apartment window in the 2000 block of County Road E as reported in the early morning hours of July 15 by a 37-year-old woman. 

Stealing the future

Someone stole a $3,500 self-guiding lawn mower off the Beisswenger’s hardware store loading dock in the 1800 block of Old Highway 8 overnight into July 19. As it happens, the futuristic mower comes complete with a GPS unit, and police used that to track the machine down to the area of Highcrest Road and County Road D in Roseville, though they haven’t found it, yet.

Stolen bike

Mom called police July 15 to report the theft of her son’s bike from a wooded area near some tennis courts in the 2400 block of Long Lake Road. She said she has a suspect in mind, someone who her son knows from school “through an incident.”

Stolen package

A 46-year-old man told police July 17 someone had stolen his Macy’s order off his doorstep in the 1300 block of Seventh Street. As it happens, Macy’s is replacing the order.


 

Shoreview

Attempted burglary

Someone used a shovel and perhaps a rake to attempt to pry open a window at a home in the 1600 block of Park Street as reported by a 40-year-old man July 15. The screen was off the window and the rake was found broken; the wannabe burglar never got in.

Burglary

A garage that might have been left open overnight in the 900 block of Harriet Avenue was hit by someone who stole items out of two unlocked cars inside, including Apple and Coldstone Creamery gift cards, along with a couple library cards, as reported July 14 by a 38-year-old woman.

Fight?

A 6 a.m. report of a fight July 16 in an apartment complex parking lot led deputies to the scene, where they found no fight. Instead, they ended up citing an 18-year-old woman for driving with a revoked license and served a boy with an order for protection. Everybody else who was found not fighting was sent on their way.

Murphy’s Law

A 72-year-old woman who told police she never leaves her purse in her car left her purse in her car July 12 while it was parked at Sitzer Park in the 4300 block of Hodgson Road. She was watching her grandchildren play baseball and someone broke into the car and stole the purse. The handbag contained four bank cards, her driver’s license and some cash; the thief managed to make $398 worth of purchases at three different Walgreens before a SuperAmerica declined the card.


 

St. Anthony

Burglary

A 21-year-old man leaving his neighbor’s house in the 2900 block of Armour Terrace July 4 noticed the family’s shed had been burglarized. Several items had been stolen but the loss was unknown.

DWI

A 28-year-old New Brighton woman was cited for fourth-degree DWI after she blew a .09 blood alcohol concentration during a July 7 stop at 39th Avenue and Silver Lake Road.

A 24-year-old St. Anthony man was booked at the Ramsey County Jail for third-degree DWI after a July 8 stop at 37th Avenue and Chandler Drive.

Theft

Police headed to the Cub Foods in the 3900 block of Silver Lake Road July 6 on a report that a 27-year-old man had tried to exit the store without paying for a cart full of $98.67 worth of groceries. He was cited for misdemeanor theft and released.

Short chase

Police attempted to stop and then briefly chased a car that was driving erratically July 7 in the area of Silver Lane and Silver Lake Road.
