County Road I and I-35W work begins

Long-awaited improvements on County Road I near Rice Creek Parkway and Old Highway 8 east of Interstate 35W in Arden Hills and Shoreview began the morning of June 26. As construction gets underway, Ramsey County will close the ramp from northbound I-35W to County Road I and the ramp from the county road to northbound I-35W.

If you need to reach County Road I you’ll need to find an alternate route. The Minnesota Department of Transportation recommends continuing north on the interstate to County Road J and then traveling back south on I-35W to exit at County Road I, or using Rice Creek Parkway south to the county road. The ramps will remain closed until early September.

The project includes construction of a roundabout at the ramp from I-35W northbound, Rice Creek Parkway and Old Highway 8, which leads in to the Arden Hills Driver Services facility. In addition, Ramsey County plans to improve trail access, build raised medians and new road shoulders and construct a new roadway between County Road H and County Road I on the east side of the freeway. Once the roundabout is completed, the ramp from Count Road I to northbound I-35W will be closed permanently.
