Arden Hills

Bad first date

A couple of men — a 22-year-old from Minneapolis and a 20-year-old from Brooklyn Center — headed to the corner of Prior Avenue and Todd Drive June 10 to meet a woman they’d met on a dating site. The guys pulled up and talked to the woman. During the conversation, two more men ran up, smashed the back window of the car the men were sitting in with a tire iron, then, with the woman, ran off. The 22 and 20-year-old don’t know why it happened; police have the woman’s name.

 

Broken window

Someone smashed a window of a car while it was parked at the senior living facility in the 3200 block of Lake Johanna Boulevard June 10. It was unclear if anything was stolen.

 

Fraud

A man told police June 12 someone had gone on a serious Amazon shopping spree fraudulently using his credit card, to the tune of some $20,000. The man canceled the card and was reimbursed by the bank.

 

On her own accord

A 49-year-old woman turned herself into the sheriff’s station in the 1400 block of Paul Kirkwold Drive June 12 for an active warrant for violating a harassment order.

 

Theft

Someone cut the lock on a construction trailer at a work site at Interstate 35W and County Road H as reported June 12 and stole $4,000 worth of stuff, including an earth compactor, chop saw and more.

 

 

Falcon Heights

Chicken or egg?

A careless driver failed to signal a lane change, likely because he or she was texting, and was pulled over for the violations June 1 at Cleveland and Larpenteur avenues. Despite not having his or her driver’s license that fateful day, the person was let off with a verbal warning.

 

Nearly arrested for a warrant

A 25-year-old man stopped May 30 at Snelling and Larpenteur avenues was arrested and cited for driving with a revoked license and would have been hauled off to the Ramsey County Jail for a Scott County warrant for also driving with a revoked license, had it not been for the small child riding along with him that day.

 

No more weed

Police stopped a car at Snelling and Nebraska avenues June 2. The driver was in possession of a small amount of marijuana and a pipe to smoke it. The officer “seized and destroyed” the pot and pipe, and the driver was “advised and sent.”

 

Robbery

A 33-year-old woman was robbed June 4 at the Larpenteur Manor Apartments in the 1700 block of Larpenteur Avenue. An unknown man put a weapon to her neck, grabbed her purse and phone and ran off. Police have a description of the man. The woman’s total loss is estimated at $240.

 

Lauderdale

Gas and gone

Someone stole $35.38 worth of gas from the BP service station in the 2400 block of Larpenteur Avenue June 3. Police were given the car’s license plate and checked the area but couldn’t locate the vehicle. Instead, police sent a letter about the theft to the car’s registered owner.

 

Graf group

Three young men were caught lurking in the area of the 1600 block of Eustis Street June 3, after someone called police to report the suspicious trio. Police say the group had been involved with spray painting a nearby business, causing an estimated $1,500 worth of damage. One of the three, a 20-year-old, was determined to have been the lookout for the other two, and was issued a citation for trespassing and sent on his way. The other two men, ages 19 and 20, did the painting, so they were booked at the Ramsey County Jail for felony criminal property damage and misdemeanor trespassing.

 

Harassment

A 39-year-old man told police May 30 his 53-year-old neighbor in the 1700 block of Malvern Street was out yelling at him, in violation of a harassment order. On June 1, A 42-year-old man said the same 53-year-old neighbor was out yelling at him, also in violation of a restraining order; the younger man signed a citizen’s arrest order but the older man refused to speak to police. The city attorney is looking into the case and the 53-year-old was given a citation for violating the restraining order.

 

Little Canada

Assault

A couple of roommates were playing pool June 11 when the 61-year-old roommate asked his 42-year-old roommate for rent money. The younger man headbutted the older man and left. Police were able to track him down and he was charged with fifth-degree domestic assault and disorderly conduct.

 

Burglary

Someone kicked in the backdoor of a home in the 100 block of County Road C the night of June 7 and then ran off before entering, since the prowler found the place was occupied by the homeowners, a 40-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman. They were getting ready for bed when it happened. Two deputies and a K9 dog searched the area but couldn’t find the burglar.

 

A man got into the garage of condos in the 100 block of Little Canada Road June 13 after its door malfunctioned and stayed open. The thief broke into multiple cars and stole items, as caught on security footage.

 

Gate crasher

A truck rammed a gate multiple times at a storage facility in the 3000 block of County Drive as caught on security tape June 12 in a futile attempt to break in. The truck eventually drove off, having done extensive damage to the gate.

 

Mounds View

Almost there

Someone stole $7 worth of gas from the Holiday in the 2700 block of Mounds View Boulevard June 13.

 

Arrest

A 46-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman who share the same last name were arrested June 10 at the Days Inn in the 2100 block of Program Drive for theft warrants.

 

Burglary

Someone broke into a house in the 7600 block of Woodlawn Drive as reported June 9. Nothing seemed to be taken, but the door was damaged.

 

Disorderly conduct

A 21-year-old woman causing problems at the Days Inn June 10 in the 2100 block of Program Drive was arrested for disorderly conduct and obstructing the legal process. She was also hauled off for two outstanding warrants.

 

Stolen copper

Someone stole a bunch of copper from a construction site in the 2500 block of County Road H2 as reported June 12. There was no estimated value of the loss.

 

Stolen mower

Someone lifted a $300 Honda lawnmower from a yard in the 7800 block of Woodlawn Drive as reported by the 54-year-old would-be mower June 14.

 

Stolen wallet

A 37-year-old man told police someone stole his wallet June 13 from the 7600 block of Woodlawn Drive. The wallet contained the man’s ID, $30 cash and a credit card, which was used for $19 of gas at a Holiday.

 

New Brighton

Burglary

Someone stole two boxes of dinnerware from a 65-year-old woman’s garage in the 500 block of Riviera Drive as reported June 11.

 

Busted mailbox

Someone drove their car into an 86-year-old man’s mailbox in the 1600 block of 21st Avenue NW as reported June 10, causing $200 worth of damage. Police found a part of the car and think it was a Honda.

 

Dine and dash

A group of five men ages 18-20 ate $61.67 worth of food at the Perkins in the 600 block of County Road D and then left without paying June 12. Restaurant staff said the group looked familiar.

 

Disorderly conduct

Police received three calls reporting a man walking down the 3100 block of Mississippi Street the afternoon of June 10 either partially clothed or wearing no clothes at all, depending on the caller’s opinion. The man was soon found by responding officers in the center lane of the street, waving his arms and yelling at people, wearing nothing but socks. Officers said it was “difficult to decipher what his intentions were” as they arrived. “It appeared as though he may possibly lunge himself in front of an oncoming vehicle,” the police report said. Officers ordered the man to get off the road and come to them and he did, while proclaiming “I’m a nudist, I’m a nudist. Freedom.” The 31-year-old man appeared intoxicated and police asked if he’d been drinking. To that he said “yes, I always drink” and “I’m not very drunk right now.” He was brought to Ramsey County Detox and charged with disorderly conduct. His clothing was found where he left it, in the 2100 block of Silver Lake Road. 

 

Parole violation

The Minnesota Department of Corrections asked New Brighton police for help arresting a 29-year-old man for a parole violation; he was incarcerated for first-degree aggravated robbery. He was picked up June 14 from the 200 block of County Road E2 without incident, with some help from Mounds View PD and Ramsey County Sheriff’s deputies.

 

Scrappers

Someone broke into an appliance store in the 1400 block of First Avenue overnight into June 9 and stole $400 worth of scrap copper. Police are waiting on security footage from the shop.

 

Shoreview

Bully

A 15-year-old boy bullied a 9-year-old boy June 9, picking up the younger kid while he was playing and tossing his sandals around. Deputies tracked down the bully, who admitted that he “messes with kids.”

 

Fake it to make it

A man “briskly” entered the Shell gas station in the 5900 block of Rice Creek Parkway June 8 and used a counterfeit $100 bill to buy a soda and a pack of smokes. He was given change and left. Police await video from the store. 

 

Wire cutter

Someone stacked milk crates to climb onto the roof of the BP in the 5900 block of Hodgson Road overnight into June 10. Once atop, the adventurer cut wires on the gas station’s roof. It’s likely the same person did the same thing with the same MO at the Freedom Value Center gas station across the street.

 

Theft

A 27-year-old Shoreview woman attempted to steal $60 worth of electronics from Target in the 3800 block of Lexington Avenue June 11 by stashing the stuff in the bottom of her kid’s stroller. She was caught. When confronted, she said she was “feeling a seizure coming on,” so police called medics and she was taken to the hospital. Before that, she offered to pay for the stuff and was cited for theft. Her child was left with a grandparent. 

 

St. Anthony

Arrest

Police arrested and cited a 23-year-old woman May 31 for texting while driving, having no insurance and expired tabs during a stop at Stinson Boulevard and 37th Avenue.

 

A 44-year-old woman who’d been drinking at the bar in the 3700 block of Stinson Boulevard June 4 got the cops called on her. Police came and found the intoxicated woman had a Fillmore County warrant out for third-degree DWI and a misdemeanor warrant out of Scott County, so she was booked at the Hennepin County Jail.

 

Assault

A 21-year-old woman told police May 29 she got into an argument with a 25-year-old man. During the argument the man threw a mug at the woman, hitting her in the face. The woman told police she didn’t want to press charges.

 

Buried treasure

Someone ripped the copper piping of an irrigation system out of the ground at condos in the 2600 block of Kenzie Terrace as reported June 2. There’s no estimation of the value of the loss or cost to fix the system.

 

Domestic assault

A 17-year-old boy was arrested June 1 after he allegedly assaulted his 54-year-old father and 53-year-old mother after the three argued. Police came and the boy had fled; officers took photos of the parents’ injuries. The 17-year-old was arrested later and taken to the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center for two counts of fifth-degree domestic assault. 

 

Mind the school bus arm

A 38-year-old man ignored the school bus arm and went right past it May 30 at Stinson Boulevard and 38th Avenue but was stopped by the cops and given a citation.

 

Stolen camera?

A 32-year-old woman spent the night at a friend’s house and realized the next morning she’d left her camera there. She called her friend, a 28-year-old man, who denied having the camera. She called police May 29 to report the camera as stolen; police are investigating.

 

Stolen from impound

Someone broke into the impound lot in the 3200 block of Stinson Boulevard overnight into May 31 and stole a car that was being held for police. The owner of the car denied stealing it and said it was only worth the impound lot fees.

 

Stuck, stolen trailer

A stolen trailer got stuck in the door of the underground parking at apartments in the 2500 block of 38th Avenue as reported May 29. The apparent thief, stopped cold, had unhooked the trailer and left it. The trailer was impounded and there’s no estimate of the damage done to the garage.
