Extremely intoxicated

Police performed a wellfare check April 29 on a woman who registered a .315 blood alcohol concentration — nearly four times the legal limit, had she been driving. The woman was released into the care of her sister so as to avoid detox.

Khat

Police arrested a 54-year-old man April 27 at Larpenteur and Arona avenues for felony first-degree possession of a controlled substance and driving with a revoked license. The man reportedly had some khat, a stimulant that’s chewed and is popular in the Horn of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. The man was booked at the Ramsey County Jail.

Strange chase

Police attempted to pull over a car April 30 for traffic violations in the area of Roselawn and Snelling avenues, but the driver sped off. Police began to pursue the car but stopped the chase because of how the driver in the fleeing car was driving. The person had seemingly gotten away, but police checked the address of the car’s registration and found it there, parked and empty. The owner of the car, a 77-year-old man, told police he was unaware who had taken, and then returned the car, which was impounded to process for evidence.

Domestic assault

A couple from Maplewood playing pool at a bar located in the 2500 block of Maplewood had a dispute May 4. The victim, a 52-year-old woman, was shoved to the ground by her 58-year-old husband. When police arrived the man was gone — officers tracked him down at his home and arrested him for fifth-degree assault, disorderly conduct and misdemeanor domestic assault.

Disorderly at Dollar Tree

Two sisters were angry and cursing and tossing things off shelves at the dollar store in the 2900 block of Rice Street May 7 so employees called the cops. Police arrested a 46-year-old woman from St. Paul on a warrant; her sister, 49 and from St. Paul too, was cited for theft, since she had $17 worth of $1 merchandise stuffed into her purse.

Panic at the disco?

A woman called a 911 dispatch center in New Jersey May 6 to report a person “waving a gun around at the disco” in the Little Canada area. NJ police contacted the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, which sent deputites to a popular bar in the 2500 block of Rice Street, though deputies found no gun and not much action of any kind at the pub.

Passed out at Culver’s

Police responded to the burger spot located in the 2800 block of Rice Street around 5:30 p.m. May 8 on a medical call — there was a man unconscious, slumped over in a booth. While one deputy attempted to give the man oxygen, he started to come to. The man, identified as a 21-year-old from Brooklyn Park, smelled of alcohol and said he was embarrassed by the situation. Nonetheless, when officers attempted to move the man out of the restaurant — his options were detox or a friend could come get him — the man caused a scene and was eventually taken to the Ramsey County Jail after he threatened police.

Tax fraud

A 27-year-old man from Shoreview called police May 8 to report tax fraud committed by his ex-girlfriend, a 29-year-old woman from Little Canada. 3200 block of Old Highway 8 and was reported April 27.

Rims and rods

A 58-year-old man told police April 24 someone broke into his storage unit in a garage at apartments in the 2500 block of 38th Avenue and stole roughly $6,000 worth of stuff, namely a set of rims for a car and a large number of fishing tackle totes, tackle and fishing rods.

Roseville

Police responded to a shoplifting call the evening of May 3 at the JCPenney department store at Rosedale Center. Two girls, a 15-year-old from Minneapolis and a 17-year-old from Crystal, were caught by mall security attempting to steal $760 and $327 worth of clothing, respectively. While security tried to take the two into custody, one of the two attempted to spray the guard with bear spray — something usually used during camping as protection against the large animals.

Though the girl failed to get the can of spray out of her purse, it went off twice while in the handbag, and the security guard began to feel the effects, similar to that of pepper spray. Police arrived and arrested the two, who were taken to the Juvenile Detention Center in St. Paul. Roseville police Lt. Lorne Rosand said the girls are likely to be charged with robbery, because of the bear spray used during their attempted theft. As for the camping product in question? “We’re kind of seeing a little uptick in it,” Rosand said. “We’re stopping cars when we have the probable cause and we are seeing bear spray.”
