Audubon Society meeting in Roseville

The St. Paul Audubon Society is holding its general meeting May 11 from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. at the Fairview Community Center, 1910 County Road B in Roseville. Speaker Scott M. Lanyon, a professor in ecology at the University of Minnesota, will present “The Case of the Scarlet non-Tanager and the Disappearing Dendroica: Avian Classification Mysteries Explained.”

 

St. Anthony Civic Orchestra performs May 13

The St. Anthony Civic Orchestra Dessert Concert is Saturday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the St. Anthony Community Center. Featuring violin soloist Michal Sobieski, the concert also features a silent auction and dessert. There are many wonderful items from many businesses in the silent auction, as well as a chance to conduct the orchestra and a chance to play in the orchestra. TED Talk discussion group on May 14

Everyone is invited to view and then discuss a TED Talk video entitled “The Case for Engineering our Food.” This discussion will take place on Sunday, May 14, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Roseville Library. 

This is the latest in an ongoing series of TED Talk discussion groups that meet every second Sunday of the month.  Registration is not required and all ages are welcome. The talks are hosted by the Roseville Area Senior Program and the Ramsey County Public Library. The library is located at 2180 Hamline Ave. N.

 

Roseville Historical Society meets May 17

The Roseville Historical Society is meeting Monday, May 17, in the Fireside Room at the Roseville OVAL. A short business meeting will be at 7 p.m. and the program begins at 7:30 p.m. Author Lee Burtman will discuss her book, “Fighting for Delphine, True Story of Triumph and Tears, Memoirs of WWII Veterans.” Treats will be served and door prizes awarded. Jams, breads and other items will be for sale to support the Society. All are welcome. The OVAL is located at 2661 Civic Center Drive.

 

St. Charles blood drive

St. Charles Borromeo Church at 2739 Stinson Blvd. NE in St. Anthony will host Memorial Blood Bank on Monday, May 22 from 2 to 6:30 p.m. in Doran Hall. There is a constant need for blood; Minnesota hospitals use 700-800 units of blood each day for victims of trauma or burns, surgical patients and cancer patients. Mental health support group offered in Roseville 

A NAMI Connection peer support group for adults recovering from mental illness meets bi-weekly in Roseville. The free group is sponsored by NAMI Minnesota, a part of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Trained facilitators who are also in recovery lead NAMI Connection groups. The group meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, from 6:30-8:00 p.m., at Centennial Methodist Church, 1524 County Road C2 in Roseville. Plant sale benefitting Heart to Care Africa

May 19-21 come to a plant, bake and photo card sale in the backyard of 1988 Aldine St. in Roseville. All three days, Friday through Sunday, the sale runs 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. All proceeds will be given to the nonprofit Heart to Care Africa. CSA deliveries in Roseville

 

The MN Food Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, operates a training program in certified organic vegetable production for beginning and immigrant farmers. Its community supported agriculture boxes are packed with the highest quality local food purchased from farmers in the program. Become a member of the CSA and you too can support farmers from 10 different cultures practicing sustainable agriculture and building a local food system in our community. St. Anthony Library book sale

The St. Anthony Library book sale is Saturday, May 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bargain hunters and book lovers take note: the Friends of the Library will hold a sale of hundreds of adult and children’s fiction and nonfiction books in hardcover and paperback. Many are priced at $1 or less. Most are donated by the public or withdrawn from the Hennepin County Library system. Funds raised will benefit library programs. Lauderdale citywide garage sale is May 20

Lauderdale residents must call City Hall at 651-792-7650 by May 12 to register your sale location and let the city know if you have items of special interest to list. It’s a great way to get rid of some stuff, meet your neighbors and find some good deals. There is no charge to register and the city does the promotion. A list of garage sale locations will be available from City Hall the week before the event. If you are having a garage sale, don’t forget to put a garage sale sign in your yard. Sales may begin at 8:00 a.m. on May 20.
