Kevin Peterson, Washington County engineer, was honored at the March 14 County Board meeting for receiving the 2017 American Society of Civil Engineers Young Engineer of the Year Award. With him are commissioners Gary Kriesel, District 3, Karla Bigham, District 4, and Fran Miron, District 1, Peterson, Don Theisen, public works director, commissioners Lisa Weik, District 5,and Stan Karwoski, District 2. Also with him are Wayne Sandberg, county engineer and deputy public works director, Frank Ticknor, design engineer, and Cory Slagle, assistant county engineer.

Kevin Peterson, an engineer in the Washington County Public Works Department, has been granted the 2017 American Society of Civil Engineers Young Engineer of the Year Award. He was nominated by his peers in the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Peterson has worked for Washington County for about 18 months. At Washington County, Peterson has led the downtown Lake Elmo improvement project, and will be working on the Highway 36/Hadley Avenue interchange project.

Peterson’s volunteer contributions include presenting on the civil engineering career to high school students at the annual Chisago Lakes High School Career Fair, and attending the annual Irondale and Mounds View High School STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) event as a resource to students considering a career in engineering. With the Institute of Transportation Engineers, Peterson serves as an engineering career resource, and the administrator of four different scholarships totaling more than $14,000.
