Affordable elegance at the Shoreview Community Center

The Shoreview Room’s large windows and statement chandeliers provide ambient lighting and an air of elegance to any event. The adjacent Fireside Lounge offers a cozy escape for guests looking for a quiet moment. Open vendor policy allows complete flexibility for a truly customized event.

Whether you’re planning a little one’s birthday party for 10 kids or a formal wedding reception for 300 guests, you’ll find the perfect fit for your next special event at the Shoreview Community Center.

The center has hosted hundreds of functions during its 25-year run in Shoreview, from corporate seminars and luncheons to pool parties, family reunions, graduations, bar and bat mitzvahs, quinceaneras and many other momentous occasions.

“When people come here for weddings, parties and other events, they say they had no idea our space was so elegant and comparable to many upscale hotel spaces,” says Michelle Majkozak, Shoreview Community Center manager.

Many couples choose to host their big day in the Shoreview and Wedell community rooms, which comfortably seat 300 and 250 guests, respectively. Both rooms feature soft, indirect and natural lighting and large wooden tables complete with cushioned chairs.

Guests can relax by the fireplace in the adjacent Fireside Lounge or let loose on one of two oak parquet dance floors. The Shoreview Room has also been recently re-carpeted and both rooms have newly upgraded audio and visual equipment — LCD projectors with drop-down screens for slideshows, presentations or background music are available and included in the room’s flat rental rate.

In warmer months a popular option is the Haffeman Pavilion. Located in front of a picturesque pond and surrounded by an award-winning native plant garden, the pavilion can comfortably accommodate groups of 125 and features outdoor grills, picnic tables, an indoor fireplace and restrooms. Guests can also rent chairs for outdoor ceremonies.

“When it comes to weddings we have unmatched customizability, especially when it comes to catering. And our room is really a blank space that anyone can put their personal touch to as far as decorations and food,” says Olivia Huso, the community center’s marketing coordinator.

Caterers love the center’s full-service, modern kitchen, equipment and facility with lots of space. And guests will be pleased with the freedom of the open catering policy.

“That means that guests can invite any licensed caterer of their choice. That’s something that really makes us stand out compared to many other venues in the area that have a list of caterers you are forced to choose from,” Huso says.

Kids love having their birthday parties year-round in the rooms near the Tropics Waterpark and Tropical Adventure Playground and can get wristbands giving them all day access to each. The staff also offers princess, pirate and under the sea themed parties for youngsters, and groups can have the waterpark all to themselves by renting it out after hours.

“We really have a lot of fun activities for children to do all in one building,” Huso says. “At other venues you might get to do one activity for an hour and then the children get bored. Here, they can go to a waterpark, indoor playground and the basketball gym and not be bored for the entire day.”

The Shoreview Community Center also has an expansion in the works that’s set to break ground sometime in the fall, to be completed by next summer.

The expansion will encompass most aspects of the building, as well as additional outdoor features, including a destination playground and added gardens and fountains.

Check out the Shoreview Community Center website for more details on the expansion or information on daily passes, memberships and event rentals.
