‘Cops vs. Kids’

The St. Anthony Police Department will be hosting its 9th annual ‘Cops vs. Kids’ basketball challenge at the St. Anthony Village High School gym on Thursday, Feb. 23. This is a fun event that pits the department’s officers against local kids from fourth through seventh grades in short basketball games. The event will be held from 6-9 p.m. and the public is welcome to attend.


Free movie night in Mounds View

Folks are invited to join the Mounds View Sons of Norway club for a free movie on Monday, March 6, starting at 7 p.m. at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, 8211 Red Oak Drive, in Mounds View. The group is hosting its annual movie night and will be presenting one of this year’s Academy Award nominees in the Best Foreign Language Film category, “A Man Called Ove.”


Free spring concert

The St. Anthony Civic Orchestra will play its Spring Concert on Sunday, March 5, at 3 p.m. at the St. Anthony Community Center, 3301 Silver Lake Rd N.E. in St Anthony. Admission is free and the concert will feature Nabucco Overture by Verdi, Carmen Suite No. 2 by Bizet, and Symphony No. 5 “Reformation” by Mendelssohn.


Fish fry in New Brighton

The New Brighton Eagles are serving a fish fry dinner every Friday during lent, starting March 3 and running thru April 14, from 5:30-7 p.m. The meal includes all the fish you can eat, a baked potato or hashbrowns, cole slaw and bread — all for $10. The Eagles Club is located at 563 Old Highway 8, New Brighton. Call 651-636-9525 for further information. 


Fish fry in Shoreview

The St. Odilia Men’s Club is having an all-you-can-eat Fish Fry on Friday, March 10 and Friday, March 24 from 5-7 p.m. The dinner includes dessert and the cost is $10 for folks 13 and older, $7 for kids ages 5-12, and kids under 5 can eat free. The church is located at 34954 N. Victoria St., in Shoreview. The proceeds support athletic programs.


Eagles breakfast open to all

The New Brighton Eagles Auxiliary will host a breakfast from 8 to 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 5. The menu will include all-you-can-eat pancakes and also a choice of sausage or ham, or eggs, toast and sausage or ham. Fruit, orange juice, coffee and milk will be included with the $6 price for the breakfast. Side orders of eggs and hashbrowns will also available for an extra charge. Okee Dokee Brothers

St. Charles Catholic School is hosting the Okee Dokee Brothers, a locally-based, Grammy Award-winning musical band that caters to children, for a free concert at 3 p.m., Feb. 26 in the school’s gym at 2727 Stinson Boulevard in St. Anthony Village. 

Doors are set to open at 2:30 p.m. and tickets are not required. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. For more information, visit www.stchbschool.org. 


Local author to discuss book

Local author William Andrews will discuss his second novel, “Daughters of the Dragon: A Comfort Woman’s Story,” which takes place in Korea during WWII. The Midwest Book Review called it a “masterpiece of fiction.” The event will take place Monday, Feb. 27, from 6:30-7:45 p.m. at the St. Anthony Village Library, 2941 Pentagon Drive.
