The Roseville Area High School girls Alpine ski team is sending a pair of competitors to the state meet this week.

Junior Elizabeth Kiresuk and sophomore Nicole Murray finished high enough in the individual standings at the Section 4 meet on Feb. 8 at Wild Mountain in Taylors Falls to earn state berths.

The top two teams automatically advance all of their competitors to state. The top 10 individuals not on one of those top two teams also qualify.

Kiresuk finished second overall to secure spot in the state meet. Her combined time of 1:05.06 left her behind only Blake’s Nellie Ide, who had the top times in both individual runs. Kiresuk had the second-best times on both of the individual runs.

Murray finished 17th overall with a combined time of 1:11.09. She was 15th on the Blue run and 20th on the Red run. Her performance placed her ninth among the top 10 individuals in the section standings.

In the team standings, Roseville was 13th on the boys’ side and ninth for the girls. St. Thomas Academy won the boys’ team title, Minneapolis Washburn was second and both teams advance to state. Minneapolis Southwest and Blake finished 1-2 in the girls’ competition to gain state berths.

The state Alpine ski meet is Feb. 15 at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.
