The Raiders competed in the Section 4AA true-team meet on Jan. 21 at Stillwater Junior High School. Roseville was unable to advance to the state true-team meet but one Raider turned in some high finishes.

Sophomore Remi Bougie was responsible for Roseville’s two highest individual event finishes.

Bougie was the runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.93, which left him behind only Stillwater senior Ethan Auleciems.

Bougie turned in a third-place performance in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:01.75. Both swimmers who finished ahead of Bougie were seniors.

Roseville’s third-best finish was fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay, in which Bougie was the lead swimmer. Joining Bougie in the foursome were fellow 10th graders Lukas Klarqvist and Michael Brandt and junior Mason Seibert.

Also competing for Roseville in the section true-team meet were sophomores Isaac Nguyen, Peter Bloomberg and Ming Yu Chan, eighth graders Joseph Brandt and Charles Batsaikhan and seventh grader Bradley Benz.

As a team, Roseville finished fifth out of six teams in the section standings. The Raiders scored 470 points.

Stillwater won the section true-team title with 1,130 points and Mounds View was second with 1,013. Both teams advanced to the state true-team meet, which was held Jan. 28, past the deadline for this edition of the Review.

Roseville goes up against White Bear Lake in a Suburban East Conference dual meet on Feb. 2.

Wrestling

Roseville was one of 17 teams taking part in a tournament at East Ridge High School on Jan. 21. In the final team standings, the Raiders finished smack dab in the middle with ninth place.

Three Roseville wrestlers placed in the top three in their respective weight classes.

Senior Tamir Beeler came up with Roseville’s highest finish as he took second place at 152 pounds. Beeler rolled through his first two matches, winning by a 20-7 major decision in the quarterfinals and via a pin in the first period in the semifinals.

In the championship match, Justin Schultz of Waconia beat Beeler 9-1.

Senior Alex LaPierre and sophomore Will Peterson both finished third in their weight classes.

LaPierre, wrestling at 160 pounds, opened the tournament with a 13-7 win in the quarterfinals and then lost on a third-period pinfall in the semifinals. He bounced back from the loss to beat South St. Paul’s Mesfin Teklu 7-5 in the third-place final.

Peterson, competing as a heavyweight, won his quarterfinal match by pinfall 24 seconds into the second period. He lost by technical fall in the semifinals. He then pinned St. Michael-Albertville’s Allan Winters 1:31 into the second period in the third-place match.

In the team standings, Roseville finished ninth with 61 points. Waconia won the team title with 235.5 points. Waconia entered the event ranked ninth in Class AA.

The Raiders have a quiet week on tap with their only event being a Suburban East Conference home dual against Stillwater on Feb. 3.
