Former Raider lighting it up in Norway

Former Roseville Area High School hockey standout Mark Van Guilder has spent the past two seasons playing professional hockey in Europe. He put up some impressive point totals last season in Italy and is on pace for even more this season in Norway.

Van Guilder plays for the Stavanger Oilers in the GET League, Norway’s premier professional league. Through 36 games, Van Guilder had 51 points (on 18 goals and 33 assists) to lead the entire league.

Last year, while playing with Ritten/Renon in the Italy A league, Van Guilder amassed 57 points (18 goals, 39 assists) in the regular season and added 23 more points (12 goals, 11 assists) in 14 playoff games. Ritten/Renon won the league championship.

The Stavanger Oilers have won the last five and six of the past seven GET League championships.

Prior to going to Europe in 2015, Van Guilder played seven seasons of professional hockey in the United States in the Nashville Predators’ organization. In those seven seasons, he played with the Hamilton Bulldogs and Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League and the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL (East Coast Hockey League).

Van Guilder also played one game in the National Hockey League, in the 2013-14 season with the Predators.

Van Guilder graduated from Roseville in 2002 and played two years of junior hockey before moving on to college hockey at the University of Notre Dame. In four seasons with the Fighting Irish, Van Guilder never missed a game and helped lead the team to its first Frozen Four in 2008.

During his time at Roseville, Van Guilder helped lead Raiders hockey to a pair of Suburban East Conference championships and was a finalist for the Mr. Hockey award.
