Bonfire in New Brighton

The city of New Brighton will be hosting a bonfire event Jan. 28 from 6-8:30 p.m. It’s set to take place at Freedom Park and Girl Scouts will help plan and organize the event. There will be a food drive, s’mores, ice skating, winter sports demonstrations, sledding, and more. In addition, those able and interested can bring a donation to the Ralph Reeder food shelf and it can be dropped off at the event.

Skate with council member Strub

New Brighton City Council Member Brian Strub is holding his annual “Skate With Your City Council Member” public meetings on Jan. 30 at the Freedom Park ice rink from 6-7 p.m. and Feb. 2 at the Sunny Square Park ice rink from 6-7 p.m. Any resident or citizen looking to share ideas, comments or suggestions for the City of New Brighton can join Strub. He asks you to bring your ideas, ice skates, pucks, sticks or the entire family. Interested citizens not able to participate can share their ideas and suggestions contacting Strub via email at brian.strub@newbrightonmn.gov or on his Facebook page at www.facebook.com/Strub4NewBrighton.

Book sale in St. Anthony

Bargain hunters and book lovers take note: the Friends of the Library will be selling hundreds of adult and children’s fiction and nonfiction books in hardcover and paperback — many priced $1.00 or less — during the library’s book sale on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Most books are withdrawn from the Hennepin County Library system or donated by the public. Funds raised will benefit the library itself. Donations are also accepted, however, the library asks that no textbooks be donated. This event will take place at St. Anthony Village Library, 2941 Pentagon Drive.
