Top three match-up awaits Pioneers in season opener
Of the 25 games on the Hill-Murray girls hockey schedule this season, at least 13 of them are against teams ranked in the Let s Play Hockey top 20. The Pioneers aren t easing into things either as their season opener is against the defending state champion and top-ranked team in the state.
Hill-Murray opens the 2016-17 season on Nov. 15 at Eden Prairie.
The Pioneers are coming back following a one-loss season a year ago. The only blemish on their regular-season record was a tie in a holiday tournament.
Hill-Murray claimed the third-place trophy at the state tournament by beating Edina on the last day of the tournament. The Pioneers opened the tournament by blanking Sartell/Sauk Rapids 5-0 and then dropped a 1-0 decision to Maple Grove in the semifinals.
Also on Hill-Murray s opening-week schedule is defending Class A state champion Blake. Hill-Murray beat and tied the Blake Bears last season.
Other ranked teams on Hill-Murray s schedule this season include second-ranked Maple Grove, fourth-ranked Edina, eighth-ranked Centennial and ninth-ranked Blaine.
