The Rev. Martin Shanahan

The Rev. Martin K. Shanahan Jr., pastor of Spirit of Hope Catholic Community in Sunfish Lake, will be ordained and consecrated bishop of the Holy Cross Old Catholic Diocese of Minnesota on Saturday, Oct. 29.

“I am extremely humbled and honored to be selected to lead the Holy Cross Old Catholic Diocese,” Shanahan said.  “I thank Bishop Emeritus Judd for his devotion and strong leadership for the past 17 years. I will do my best to continue his legacy.”

Shanahan was ordained on Jan. 9, 2008 and is the founding pastor of Spirit of Hope Catholic Community. He graduated from the St. Paul Seminary School of Divinity, of the University of St. Thomas in 1987 with a master’s of divinity and a master’s of arts with concentrations in dogmatic and moral theology. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force Reserves as chaplain and 14 years as a chaplain with the St. Paul Police Department.
