Listen at the Library: Dean Brewington

On Thursday, August 11, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dean Brewington will play jazz music at the Oakdale Library, 1010 Heron Ave. N. Dean is known to local jazz fans for his mainstream jazz in the tradition of Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington and Horace Silver. If it’s nice out, music will be on the lawn, so bring a chair or blanket.

 

Saint Therese Foundation golf open

Saint Therese will host the inaugural golf open to celebrate seniors and raise funds for important programs and services. Registration is $125 per golfer and includes 18 holes of golf, shared cart, box lunch and buffet dinner. The event will be Aug. 18 from noon to 7 p.m., but please visit sttheresemn.org/golf-open to register by Aug. 8. It will take place at Oak Marsh Golf Club, 526 Inwood Ave. N., Oakdale.

 

Healthy Pet Foods dog wash

Healthy Pet Foods located at 6060 50th St. N, Oakdale is opening their dog washing service for freewill donations to Athena’s Canine Companions on Aug. 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Athena’s Canine Companions is a 501c non-Profit group of volunteers dedicated to assisting in the process of obtaining trained service dogs for our veterans who suffer from the challenging symptoms of Combat Related Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.  ‘The Wizard of Oz’

“The Wizard of Oz” is being presented by Mahtomedi Community Education in cooperation with Homeward Bound Theatre Company on Thursday, August 18 at 6:30 p.m. at Mahtomedi High School, 8000 75th St. N., Mahtomedi. Cast members in 4th through 8th grade will present this marvelous adaptation. 

Come with Dorothy as she is swept away in a cyclone and finds herself in the land of Oz, being hailed by the Munchkins for saving them from the Wicked Witch of the East.  As Dorothy bravely sets out to find a way back home, she soon meets the Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion and the Tin Woodsman. Together they journey to see the Wizard, all the time being pursued by the Wicked Witch of the West.

Introduction to Meditation

On Monday, August 15, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. the Oakdale Library, 1010 Heron Ave. N., is hosting an introduction to meditation class. Learn about the benefits of meditation and try it out with an experienced practitioner. Registration required. Orphie and the Book of Heroes

A free family-friendly show will be held in Maplewood on Aug. 18, 19, 20 and 21. The story is of an orphan girl in ancient Greece who takes a harrowing and hilarious journey to the Underworld to save her guardian, Homer.  This musical premiere takes place in the director’s backyard, so bring your lawn chair and bug spray! The Donley residence is located at 1829 Burr St., Maplewood, and the show will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Donations will be taken. The Stories Café food truck will be in the driveway for pre-show edibles.

 

North High School class of 1991 reunion

All North St. Paul Class of 1991 Alumni (plus guest) are welcome to celebrate our 25 year reunion Aug. 6 from 5 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at Gulden’s Restaurant & Banquet Center, 2999 N. Highway 61, Maplewood. We’re going to party like it’s 1991! It costs $45 per person at the door, which includes a dinner buffet with three scrumptious entrees and numerous sides. The event will also have a cash bar, DJ to spin the 90s greatest tunes, “selfie” booth, and more!
