Congresswoman Betty McCollum met with members of the Irondale High School robotics team visiting Washington June 21 after an award-winning performance in the FIRST Robotics Championships, held in St. Louis at the end of April. The Irondale team built a robot that competed in a castle-themed competition that required it to breach defenses, climb towers, and shoot foam balls.

Annette D’Onofrio, Irondale class of 2006, has received her PhD from Stanford University in Linguistics with a focus in Socio-Linguistics and has accepted an associate professorship in the Linguistics Department at Northwestern in Evanston, beginning this fall.

Aaron Marx, of Shoreview, was recently recognized by the city council and mayor for the service project he executed in conjunction with becoming an Eagle Scout. Marx, 17, helped designed, build and install 12 bat houses in two city parks, creating new habitats and mitigating the problem of roosting bats in a humane way.
