Man killed, police officer shot in Oakdale

A man was shot and later died after an Oakdale police officer and an agent from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension attempted to execute a search warrant in the 2700 block of Granite Avenue just before 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28.

Several shots were heard over the police scanner.

Two ambulances were reportedly sent to the premises, one for the officer and the other for the suspect. Both were transported to Region's Hospital where the suspect was pronounced dead. Official cause of death is still being investigated. 

The Oakdale officer, whose name has not been released, was shot in the arm but is expected to recover from the wound.

The St. Paul Police Department is handling the shooting investigation. Mike Ernster of the St. Paul Police Department said the case is still open. No further comment was made regarding the event.
