Archeologist to present Fish Creek findings

Tuesday, Nov.  17, Jeremy Nienow, PhD, RPA, will discuss the results from this past summer’s excavations at Fish Creek in southern Maplewood. The Maplewood Area Historical Society and the Ramsey County Maplewood Library will be hosting the event from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Maplewood Library, 3025 Southlawn Drive. The dig was sponsored by the City of Maplewood, the Maplewood Area Historical Society and the Ramsey County Historical Society.  This site is known to have pottery fragments and stone tool chips that date to the Woodlands Culture (500B.C. - 1650 A.D.) from a previous archaeological survey in 2005. Dr. Nienow is a registered, professional archaeologist who operates Nienow Cultural Consultants LLC and has taught at public and private higher educational institutions in the Twin Cities. This talk is funded with a grant from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
