Volunteers invited to Fish Creek dig

Adults and kids 14 and older are invited to take part in a supervised archaeology dig at Fish Creek Preserve in Maplewood.

Archaeologist Jeremy Nienow, cultural heritage consultant and educator, will supervise the digs.

Participants can choose one or both days of the dig:
• On Field Day 1, Friday, July 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the group will do shovel tests to determine the western boundary of the archeological site.
• On Field Day 2, Saturday, July 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the group will excavate a 1-meter square pit to search for artifacts.

Participants must be able to stoop, use a shovel, and be outdoors for the full five-hour session. They should wear old clothing and sturdy shoes and must provide their own lunches and bring their own water.

Preregistration, with a $15 payment per person per day, is required by July 21; the maximum number working each day is 12 people.
