Chris Lawson has competed for three seasons in cross country and track and field at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. The St. Anthony Village High School graduate has in that time amassed an impressive list of awards and accolades and he added to it this spring.

Lawson, a junior, picked up an all-conference award and an academic all-conference honor.

He was named all-Upper Midwest Athletic Conference for the outdoor track season thanks to the two conference championships he won back in May. Lawson won both the 1,500 meters and the 5,000 meters at the UMAC meet on May 1 at Minnesota-Morris.

Lawson also earned the UMAC track and field athlete of the week award on April 28 after setting a pair of school records. He set the record in the 10,000 meters at a meet in Winona on April 25 and a week earlier set the 5,000-meter record in St. Paul.

Lawson also shines in the classroom as evidenced by his Academic All-UMAC award. He is majoring in exercise physiology.

To be eligible for the academic honor, athletes must post a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher and compete in the sport in which he or she is nominated in the season that corresponds with the selection.

Lawson is a six-time Academic All-UMAC honoree and a five-time all-conference selection. He has won the 5,000-meter conference championship five times (three indoor, two outdoor) as well.

Mounds View grad makes academic all-conference

Lisa Ito is a sophomore on the St. Scholastica women's track and field team and was named Academic All-UMAC this spring. She is now a two-time honoree.

Ito, a 2013 Mounds View High School graduate, is a thrower for the Saints and focuses mostly on the shot put although she also participates in the discus and hammer throw. Her top shot put mark at St. Scholastica was 38 feet, 11 inches, which came in the UMAC outdoor championships in her freshman season.
