Mounds View High School wins Economics Challenge state championship

Mounds View High School won the state champion title in the "Adam Smith" — advanced placement — division of the statewide Economics Challenge on April 7. Mounds View last won the state title in 2013.

Students Abraham Chen, Emily Ruan, Sam Rush and Jacob Weightman won the championship. In addition to winning the state championship, Rush was also named 2015 Economics Student of the Year for having the highest individual score of any student. Chen and Ruan had the 3rd and 4th highest scores, respectively. Martha Rush, a social studies teacher at Mounds View, was their coach.

A team of students from Mounds View also placed 2nd in the "David Ricardo" — large school — division.

The competition provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate their economic knowledge. Over 70 teams from across Minnesota competed in the 2015 competition.
