Participation at local 5K means scholarships for students

A 5 kilometer run is only 16,404 feet and 2 inches.

Folks are invited to participate in the 17th annual Inver Grove Heights B.E.S.T. Foundation’s May Day 5K.

This year, the event will be held Saturday, May 2, at the Inver Grove Heights Community Center, 8055 Barbara Ave., Inver Grove Heights.

Registration for this event begins at 7:30 a.m. The race starts at 8:45 am.

Participants will receive a May Day 5K T-shirt before the race.

For the competitive runners, medals will be awarded for placing first, second or third in the following categories: boys and girls ages 13 and younger, boys and girls ages 14 to 17, men and women ages 18 and older, and senior men and women ages 50 and older.

In addition to the 5K race, attendees can take advantage of an Indoor Toy and Garage Sale in the West Arena in the Inver Grove Heights Community Center, the hours of which are from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The May Day 5K is a fundraising event to fund scholarships for Simley High School students. This year’s event includes the 5K race, a short run or walk event for non-competitive supporters, a T-shirt, a picnic lunch, photo opportunities with team mascots, gift card prizes and the annual hula hoop contest.
