SBM Fire Department seeks volunteer firefighters

The Spring Lake Park, Blaine, Mounds View (SBM) Fire Department is now accepting applications for volunteer firefighters. Applications are available for download online at and must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 17.

The SBM Fire Department seeks motivated and hardworking individuals to join our team of highly trained professionals. The 70 men and women of the SBM Fire Department respond to emergencies 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, year-round. Many work full-time jobs, have families, own businesses, coach sports and enjoy weekend trips away. No previous experience is necessary and all training and equipment will be provided.

Successful candidates:
• Live within response time requirements to one of our four fire stations
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must hold a valid driver's license
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent

Important dates:
• Tuesday, March 31, or Wednesday, April 1, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Fire Station #3, 11920 Ulysses St. NE in Blaine: An informational session will be held for interested members and their families/significant others. Applicants are invited to attend on either date. (Optional)
• Saturday, April 18, at the Joint Training Center in Fridley: The Anoka Country Recruitment Expo will be held for applicants to try on firefighting gear, use equipment and practice physical ability skill stations. RSVP for this event to secure a timeslot by contacting Maddison Zikmund. (Optional)
• Friday, April 24, from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday, April 25 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Joint Training Center in Fridley: Physical ability evaluations will be held by appointment only and can be scheduled by contacting Maddison Zikmund. (Required)
• Interviews and additional requirements will be completed by June 2.
