Girls basketball playoffs kick off this week

All three Bulletin-area high school girls basketball teams kick off the post-season this week. Here's a look at where each team is headed.

Irondale

The Knights are the seventh seed in Section 5AAAA and travel to second-seeded Osseo on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Irondale (11-15) and Osseo, both members of the Northwest Suburban Conference, split a pair of regular-season games. The Knights drew first blood in the season series with a 69-67 win at Osseo on Jan. 23. The Orioles returned the favor last Friday with a 79-57 win at Irondale.

Irondale's win over Osseo (17-9) in January dropped the Orioles' record to 8-8, but they went 9-1 over their final 10 games.

The Irondale/Osseo winner advances to Saturday's semifinals, where it will face either third-seeded Maple Grove or sixth-seeded Wayzata.

The section final is March 7.

Mounds View

The Mustangs are the fourth seed in Section 5AAAA and host fifth-seeded Champlin Park on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Mounds View (17-9) enters the game having won eight of its final 10 regular-season games. Last week, the Mustangs battled, but came up short, against seventh-ranked Roseville and beat East Ridge to close out the regular season.

Champlin Park (14-11), a Northwest Suburban Conference team, went 9-1 in January, but was just 5-10 the rest of the season. The Rebels closed out the regular season last week with a blowout loss (54-32) to Centennial, the No. 1 seed in the section, and a two-point victory over Anoka.

The Mounds View/Champlin Park winner advances to the Saturday's semifinals against either top-seeded Centennial (18-9) or eighth-seeded Robbinsdale Cooper (8-16).

St. Anthony Village

The Huskies are the sixth seed in Section 3AAA and travel to third-seeded St. Paul Como Park on Wednesday night.

St. Anthony (7-19) suffered through a 14-game losing streak to start the season, but bounced back to go 7-5 over its final 12 games. The Huskies enter the post-season fresh off a 49-46 victory over St. Agnes last Friday.

Como Park (18-8) won its final five regular-season games and also rattled off a 10-game winning streak earlier in the season.

The St. Anthony/Como Park winner advances to the section semifinals on Saturday afternoon at Osseo High School against either second-seeded DeLaSalle (18-5) or seventh-seeded Spring Lake Park (3-23).

The section final is March 12 at Anoka High School.
