Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office warns of telephone scam

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office has received a number of reports from citizens stating that they have received phone calls from someone claiming to be a member of the Sheriff’s Office and asking them to “settle warrants by putting money on a prepaid card.”

Investigators are currently working to identify the person making these calls. If identified, the caller may be subject to criminal prosecution. In the meantime, the Sheriff’s Office reminds citizens that it does not contact people with warrants by telephone and does not offer a “pay by phone” option for settling fines.

If you receive a phone call claiming that you owe unpaid fines, please hang up on the individual.
