Letter: 'Inexcusable'

To the editor:

It is inexcusable that the School District 282 School Board proposed the two levies that passed in the November 4th election.

Currently, district taxpayers already pay the highest school property tax rate on a $225,000 home in any of the 17 metro school districts, of which include: Edina, Minneapolis, Mounds View, Wayzata, Minnetonka and Roseville.  One would think that district taxpayers are already providing enough generous funding in their support of the school district, and have done so for many years.

Now, district taxpayers will see a 24.5% increase in school property tax rates by 2021 and will be paying the highest school property rate in the entire state of Minnesota!

The new school property tax increases will cause an economic hardship for many of the district residents, especially those that are on fixed or limited incomes or those that have excessive medical expenses.

This school district has never lacked proper funding by the taxpayers, but what it does lack in my opinion is fiscal responsibility and sound leadership by our school board.  And, that is unacceptable!
