Letter: 'Grateful for continued community support'

To the editor:

To the voters in the St. Anthony-New Brighton School District, thank you for approving both referendum questions in the November 4, 2014 General Election!  We are grateful for continued community support as it allows our schools to remain focused on our mission: to educate, prepare, and inspire a community of lifelong learners in our small, caring environment.

Voter approval of question 1 renewed and increased our current operating levy, which generates $1.8 million per year.   Increases to the operating levy will generate a total of $3.1 million for our schools over the next 10 years.  Voter approval of question 2 -- capital projects levy -- will generate $450,000 in new funding each year for curriculum and technology.  This levy provides a dedicated source of funding for curriculum and technology in our classrooms and schools.

Our community has a tradition of strong schools and our residents are proud of our small school district.  Each week, we meet new families who moved into our community because of our schools.  On behalf of the 1760 students at Wilshire Park Elementary School, St. Anthony Middle School, and St. Anthony Village High School,  thank you for taking the time to learn about the referendum questions and the importance of those questions to our schools.

Sincerely,

Superintendent Bob Laney and School Board Chair Leah Slye

St. Anthony-New Brighton School District
