— Make note: Lacrosse for both boys and girls is an up-and-coming sport of the future for high schools in the state. This year qualifying for state tournament play included  73 girls’ teams and 68 boys’ teams

—Now that American Legion baseball has begun — North St. Paul Post 39 plays at Kuenkel Field; Maplewood Post 599 Mapleleafs play at the Hill-Murray High School Field; and the Oakdale Mavericks play at the Tartan High School Field — you might be interested in knowing that for the first time in many years, Minnesota, with 306 teams playing, has the most in the country. Next is Pennsylvania — for many years the perennial top state — has 299. Rounding out the top five are: Nebraska, 281; Wisconsin, 297; and Illinois, 163.

— And speaking of American Legion Baseball, The local District IV American Legion baseball teams — along with all who knew him throughout the state — were saddened by the recent passing of GEORGE BODLOVICK, a Korean War veteran who resided in White Bear Lake.

George was first a manager of Legion baseball and then the Commissioner of District IV American Legion ball. George — in addition to his wife of 60 years, Dorothy — will be greatly missed by baseball teams throughout the area.

George and Dorothy — in addition to their four children — throughout the years were foster parents to some 36 other youth.

At the entrance of the funeral parlor where George was laid, was a handsome photo of George with — appropriately — a baseball diamond as a backdrop.

— It may be many years coming, but rest assured that seven-year-old Serenity Peters will remember her play on the softball field for a lifetime and be able to tell her grandkids.

Serenity, playing shortstop in a North St. Paul Pony League game for the Landsharks — with runners on second and first — speared a line shot toward second base, stepped on second for out No. 2 and then beat the runner back to first for a near unprecedented unassisted triple play. Great going Serenity!

— Hey RUTH, you hang in there!
