Notes: Some tidbits worth noting
Notable News — Congratulations are in order
— Tartan High School’s 4X100 relay squad consisting of Waheed Momoh, Anthony Brown, Eli McGeehan and Buddy Prell, with a time of 43.90 won the Classic Suburban Conference championship. The foursome then went on to qualify for the state meet, which will be held at Hamline University June 6—7.
— Also from Tartan, Anthony Brown, with a time of 11.18, qualified for the state meet in the 100—meter dash.
— Tartan sophomore Sam Nofziger won the conference 1600—meter championship with a time of 4:40.80.
— Kudos to the North team for winning its 10th straight (that’s right, 10!) Classic Suburban Conference boys championships.
— North’s Akeem Sirleaf topped the Section 4AA field and is headed to the state meet in three events. He won the 100 meter in 10.99, the 200 meter in 22:04, and was also first in the long jump with a distance of 22—8.75.
— Also from North gaining a first place in the sections and heading to the state meet is Malek Evans with toss of 54—5.6 in the shot put.
Girls track and field
From North High, Callie Kolbeck placed first in the pole vault with a leap of 9—7. North’s Patti O’Brien qualified for the state meet in the 200 meters with a time of 10:57.67.
Tartan’s state Triple “A” Award winner Shaelyn Sorensen was Section 4AA champion in both the 1600 meter and 3200 meter runs with respective times of 4:56.52 and 10:35.85.
Henry Venuta of Hill—Murray qualified for the state meet that will be held at Bunker Hills June 10—11.
Tartan Titans Alexis Chau and Madelyn Miller have qualified for the girls state meet at Bunker Hills.
The North High softball team, with a 7—0 win over Woodbury in the Section 4AAA finals, is headed to the state tournament — the Polars’ first trip since 2011. The tournament will be played June 5—6 at Caswell Park in North Mankato.
