Consistency a goal for Roseville girls lacrosse

The Roseville Area High School girls lacrosse team has an interesting mix of players on its roster this spring. The Raiders are led by a trio of veteran seniors but also have four eighth-graders on the roster.

With that kind of experience disparity, head coach Sonja Hoffman is looking for consistency from one day to the next.

“We are looking for good, solid play on a day-to-day basis, both in practice and in competition,” said Hoffman, who is her 12th year with the program and 10th as head coach.

Roseville returns nine letterwinners from last year’s team that finished fifth in the Suburban East Conference.

Leading the team this spring are senior captains Laura Hill and Izzy Labore-Curtis. Labore-Curtis made program history earlier this spring when she signed a letter of intent to play college lacrosse at Delaware State. She will be the first RAHS girl to play lacrosse at the Division I college level.

Delaware State, located in the state capital city of Dover, has fielded a women’s lacrosse team for two seasons. When Labore-Curtis joins the Hornets next season, she’ll have the opportunity to help the team win the first game in the history of the program.

Mackenzie Moriarty is another senior who will be looked to for leadership this season.

“Strengths are our captains who put a lot of time in the off-season preparing for this season,” Hoffman said. “Our team is young this season...a lot of inexperience that includes four eighth graders.”

The Raiders are looking to improve on last year’s conference finish. Among the top teams in the Suburban East Conference is Stillwater, which is ranked third in the state. Hoffman also expects East Ridge to challenge for the top spot in the conference

Roseville opened the season on Monday with a game at Woodbury. Results were not available for this edition of the Review.

Next up on the schedule for the Raiders is their home opener on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Cretin-Derham Hall. On the schedule next week is a game at White Bear Lake on April 28 and a home game against Park-Cottage Grove on April 30.
