Irondale boys tennis squad returns experienced lineup
The Irondale High School boys tennis team returns six starters from a year ago and number of those players already have multiple years of varsity experience under their belts. With that kind of veteran lineup, the Knights are looking to improve on last year’s season.
In 2013, Irondale went 10-4 overall, finished third in the North Suburban Conference and advanced to the second round of the section tournament. The Knights want to be better this season in all three categories.
Head coach Mike Walseth believes his squad can contend in this final spring of the North Suburban Conference. Benilde-St. Margaretís and St. Louis Park are considered the favorites.
Among Irondale’s returning players is junior Peter Lyngdal, a four-year All-Conference honoree and the Knights’ No. 1 singles player.
Irondale had to reschedule the first three matches of the season and will try to play the season opener on Wednesday at Mounds View. The Knights play their first conference match on Thursday at Spring Lake Park.
