Maplewood rolls out recycling carts

This month, Maplewood is switching from recycling bins to larger carts with lids.

Through March, Tennis Sanitation, the city’s recycling contractor, will deliver standard carts, which are brown with an orange lid.

During a regularly scheduled recycling pick up day, 65-gallon carts will be delivered to single-family homes and 35-gallon carts will be delivered to townhomes and manufactured homes.

There is no additional cost to residents for the upgrade; residents pay a quarterly recycling fee ($8.82 every three months), with their water bills.

Residents are encouraged to test the carts for three months. After the initial three months, residents can request a cart size change with up to two free changes per property.

Tennis will charge $25 for additional changes.

If a property is sold or transferred, the new owner will be offered the same changes for free.

Residents can keep the old bins or place them upside down at the curb on recycling day. Tennis will recycle them.
