Mounds View town hall meeting to be held March 31

The city of Mounds View will be holding its 10th annual town hall meeting at city hall on Monday, March 31 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for city residents to get up to speed on city ventures and interact with the mayor, council members and city staff.

As in past years, this year’s town hall meeting will include a city department exhibit. There will be informational tables set up for police, finance, public works, community development and parks and forestry departments, as well as the YMCA and Mounds View Community and Banquet centers.  City staff members will be on hand to answer questions about public safety, recycling, utilities, city parks or any other concerns or issues. The city exhibit will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

The Mounds View Police Department’s K9 team -- made up of officer and handler Nick Ericson and his four-legged partner Niko -- will also be providing a police K9 demonstration.

The speaking portion of the meeting will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m., beginning with an awards presentation for citizen and coach of the year, followed by mayor Joe Flaherty’s State of the City address. City administrator Jim Ericson will then deliver his presentation: “Vision, Mission and Goals for 2014.”

Ericson said that, as in 2013, redevelopment of the County Road 10 corridor would continue to be a focal point for the city this year, but said the council has expanded its priorities over last year’s. Ericson will discuss those priorities during his presentation at the town hall meeting.

To conclude the speaking portion of the meeting, city council members will provide final thoughts before opening up the floor to comments and questions.

In addition to being an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback to city officials, Council member Gary Meehlhause said the meeting would also be a good opportunity for anyone interested in serving on a city committee or commission to get information on how to get involved. He said there are vacancies on the Mounds View Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission and on the Streets and Utilities Committee.

“Joining a committee is a good way to get involved and understand what is going on in the city,” he said.

The town hall meeting will be broadcast live on Mounds View Television, Channel 16, webstreamed online and replayed on the cable channel and available for on-demand web replay. For more information visit the city’s website at www.ci.mounds-view.mn.us or contact city hall at 763-717-4000.
