Oakdale bank robber sentenced

After admitting he stole more than $6,000 from the Oakdale branch of Western Bank on Hadley Avenue, a man who had three prior felonies on his record was sentenced to 38 months in prison last week.

Ryan Terrell Riddle, 27, pleaded guilty to a simple robbery charge that was filed in June 2013. The criminal complaint states that on April 8, 2013, he walked into the Western Bank in Oakdale with a hood over his head and a scarf covering his face and handed a bank teller a note demanding she give him money.

Riddle instructed the teller to keep her left hand where he could see it, and she used her right hand to give him money, which she estimated was between $5,000 and $6,000, out of a drawer. He then put the money in a backpack and left on foot.

About three weeks later, on April 24, 2013, Riddle returned to Western Bank, but this time to the St. Paul branch. He again gave the teller a note, put the money in a backpack and left on foot. Police apprehended him a short time later.

Riddle admitted to investigators that he had robbed the St. Paul Western Bank, but denied involvement in the Oakdale branch robbery, telling police he was in Chicago that day.

However, cell phone records revealed he had used his phone near the Oakdale Western Bank. He then admitted to investigators that he was, in fact, in the Twin Cities April 8.

Riddle will be given credit for the 192 days he spent in Washington County Jail. He was also ordered to pay $6,390 in restitution to Western Bank.
