Multiple Raiders headed to state swim meet
The Roseville Area High School boys swimming and diving team claimed three entries into this week’s Class AA state meet. The Raider swimmers clinched their state berths at last weekend’s Section 5AA meet at Minnetonka East Middle School.
Junior Leo DiVita will compete in two events at state and was Roseville’s lone section champion. DiVita took first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.47 seconds.
DiVita will also compete at state in the 200-yard freestyle relay along with teammates Monty Bartkaitis, Sawyer Boyles and Andrew Woodard-Bentley. The foursome’s time of 1:29.88 put them in fourth place but was faster than the state-qualifying time so they are headed to state.
Bartkaitis, a junior, is also a two-event state qualifier. He will swim the 100-yard breaststroke after beating the qualifying time with a 1:01.04.
As a team, Roseville ended up fourth in the standings with 255 points. Wayzata won the section crown with 542 points.
The state meet is Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. each night at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. Thursday is the diving preliminaries, the swimming prelims take place on Friday and the finals for all events are on Saturday.
