Former Raiders earn academic honors
A pair of Roseville Area High School graduates was recently honored for their athletic and academic prowess by their respective collegiate conferences.
Kristina Poss and Sam Toso were named academic all-conference for the fall season. Poss is a senior cross country runner at St. Catherine University in St. Paul and Toso is a sophomore on the men’s cross country team at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth.
Poss was named academic all-conference by the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Honorees must maintain a grade-point average of at least 3.5. In addition to the grade-point average requirement, cross country runners must also finish in the top 50 or be among their teamís top seven finishers at the conference championship meet.
Poss was one of five St. Catherine cross country runners to earn all-academic honors. At the MIAC championships last fall, Poss was the second St. Catherine runner across the finish line and she placed in the top 35. She also holds the school’s fifth-fastest cross country time, which she set as a junior at the 2012 MIAC championship meet.
Toso was named academic all-conference by the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, which honors athletes who maintain a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher. He was one of 13 members of the St. Scholastica men’s cross country team to earn all-academic honors.
In addition to cross country, Poss and Toso are members of their schools’ respective track and field teams.
