In its fifth year, the food drive for Second Harvest Heartland was the biggest to date. The drive is organized by the Wilshire Park Parents Association and thanks to students, families and staff this year brought in more than $1,600 and 3,428 pounds of food. That is a significant increase in both cash donations and non-perishable foods. Last year’s drive brought in just over $1,100 and 2,400 pounds of food.
Ms. Schauf’s third grade class brought in the most food and helped “Load the Truck” on Monday, Nov. 25. Second Harvest is the largest food bank in the Upper Midwest and distributes more than 51 million pounds of food a year.
