Rams cap season at state tournament
The Mounds View/Irondale/Roseville adapted soccer teams recently closed out their seasons with appearances in the state tournament.The CI and PI teams played in the tournament Nov. 15-16 at Stillwater Area High School. The CI team went 1-2 and finished sixth while the PI team lost both of its games and tied for seventh.
The CI Rams were the No. 4 seed from the North and faced South No. 1 seed South Washington County in the quarterfinals. South Washington showed why it was a high seed when it blanked the Rams 9-0.
The Rams shook off the loss and rebounded to win their consolation semifinal against Stillwater/St. Croix Prep 7-5. Crispus Mochama led the Rams with four goals while Marc Grommes added two tallies. Daniel Laird-Thigpen added a goal and David Thompson made 25 saves.
The win sent the Rams to the consolation final, where they dropped a 13-1 decision to North Suburban. Thompson scored the Rams’ lone goal and Garrett Johnson finished with 26 saves.
Thompson was named to the all-tournament team.
The PI Rams were the No. 3 seed from the North but couldn’t come up with a victory in the state tournament. They lost 16-5 to South No. 2 seed South Suburban in the quarterfinals. Natanael Bernard scored four times for the Rams and Luke Pfeifer had the other goal.
In the consolation semifinals, the Rams fell 12-5 to Minneapolis South. Bernard scored three goals giving him seven for the tournament. Pfeifer added two goals and two assists for the Rams. Freshman Hadley Eby had 22 saves for the Rams.
