Man who struck pregnant girlfriend with truck in Mounds View sentenced

Jordan Zachary Knoff

A Coon Rapids man who admitted to purposely hitting his pregnant girlfriend with his truck in the Mermaid parking lot in Mounds View last spring has been sentenced to five years and eight months in prison.

In August, Jordan Zachary Knoff, 25, pled guilty to second-degree assault as part of a plea deal in Ramsey County District Court.

According to the criminal complaint, witnesses in the Mermaid parking lot May 15 said they saw Knoff arguing with his 18-year-old girlfriend before he hit her with his pickup truck. The victim, who was six months pregnant at the time, was sent flying through air.

She was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center where she was treated for a skull fracture from the impact and severe road rash from sliding across the pavement. A Hennepin County prosecutor said the baby was healthy during the plea hearing.

Knoff has a lengthy criminal record, which includes convictions for first and second-degree assault, making terroristic threats, theft, fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, escape from custody and possession of a weapon on school property.

Ramsey County Attorney’s Office spokesman Dennis Gerhardstein said Knoff would be serving his 68-month sentence at the Minnesota Department of Corrections facility in St. Cloud.
